Title: Hello, New Here,Looking for my first mk5 GTI
Post by: Digger3 on February 09, 2012, 06:29:08 pm
Hello new to the forum, looking for advice.

Well just as the title says I'm looking for my first MK5 Golf Gti,, I  have a Audi A4 with S-Line kit which i'll be keeping, but the wifes corsa is on it's last legs , which makes for the perfect excuse to get a mk5 GTI (love em)..

I owned a mk2 back in the day it was the first 16v on a D-plate even remember the reg D280 TUJ, which I bought back in 1989 when it was just two yrs old and I was 19,,, oh and insurance was affordable.

Loved it and always said I'd buy another,, well just 23 yrs later that's what I'm doing,, Budget wise I've got 7k but could spend a little more maybe another grand at a push..

Looking for pointers really important things to look out for ,important things to check both on the car and history etc,, all advice welcome..

Thanks,  Neil..

Buyers guide on here somewhere.

Just had mine two days, as a guide I paid £6500 for mine 55 plate five door in Tornado red with FSH (private sale). Good luck in your search.

I have found one in candy-white 2006, 91k,, asking £6995, there is room for negotiation to,    6 to 6 1/2,   are the candy white ones as popular as say grey or black ? is that a fair price with fvwsh, 2 private owners ?

I'd try and offer 6,500 TBH.

We paid that amount for a FVWSH MK5 GTi manual 55plate with 85K back in September, with cambelt & waterpump done.

It's a 3 dr with Interlagos cloth. All the Used buying guides for this car (VW Driver, Autocar & CAR magazines) recommend going for the manual for this sort of budget.

If you buy this month's CAR magazine, you'll find a decent guide in there with things to look out for.

Welcome, and good luck!
