Does anyone know how to get the metal ring bit off the spindle, so I can put a new wiper arm on?
The old one was ripped off, just leaving the metal ring, which apparently does not just screw off.
The bloke at Colbournes VW said it has to be sawn off with a hacksaw, and the vibrations can cause the rear window to shatter.
"Do you want to book it in with us so we take the risk?" Er, no thanks Mr Stealer!

Spray plenty of wd40 on and let it soak in for a while
It's pushed onto splines so has to be pulled off (do not turn or you'll strip the threads) - they do bond together with corrosion so will take some pulling, use a rocking motion which should help

Cheers Robby, but what do you pull it off with? Do you need to get a tool behind it?

You can try a trim removal tool but make sure you put a thin piece of wood, etc between the glass and the tool when levering or the glass will break
I've used mole grips before to pull it off straight with a side to side movement to rock it free

Nice one, I'll give it a go.
