Just done a 100 mile round trip on the motorway. Steady pace (80ish mph the whole time) very light on the throttle but only got 29.5mpg average  Does anyone know whether this is normal - it doesnt exactly stack up with manufacturers claims. If not what do you think could be the cause - I have only just bought the car and have two weeks warranty left! It's a 2007 Edition 30 with 39k on the clock........

It was minus 12.5C where I live today and my fuel consumption was lower than normal. Cold might have something to do with it?
-
I reckon the cold weather has a lot to do with it, I was averaging 30mpg a couple of weeks ago, now it's dropped to 28mpg since the cold weather arrived. I have now got rid of the mpg reading of the display, just fill it up when it needs it.

When I sit on the motorway, 80mph set on cruise control, I get approximately 29mpg in my ED30 summer or winter 99 Tesco fuel.
-
Similar results today, 29.5mpg on the way to york, along the A64. Found out that VW dont change the plugs until 60k, so may get mine done as im at 44k, appears it could make some difference.
-
My ED30 used to average 26mpg which is why i traded it in for something more economical - new Astra 1.6 which VX claim 44mpg (town), this is averaging just under 31mpg
-
Its normal figures. 60mph steadly i get 32mpg but i did see 38mpg before my maps
-
Sounds like its the norm then!! Not too much of an issue since I don't do high milage anyway but expected more!!
Frodo-anni - where abouts are you. I'm in Wetherby....
-
Bingley, west yorks, came through wetherby yesterday :happy2:
-
Drove 200 miles down the m1/m25 last night, cruise on at about 85mph and got 30.7 mpg, little lower than when I normally do that trip
-
No way....I used to live in Bingley until last August!!!! Its a small world.......
