I rang my local VW main dealer for a quote on my forthcoming 40k (4 year) service, which is classed as a major one including spark plugs, pollen filter, fuel filter and the usual other stuff.
Here are the quotes I received:-
Alex Lawrie Skoda:- £260 all in.(£307.81 less 15% discount)
IMG SEAT :- £225 all in. (didn't include plugs though)
Awesome GTI :-£247.25 all in.
PSI Tuning:- £201.25 all in.
Local VW dealer :- £188 all in. !!!!!!
Apparently the normal VW price is £363, but they have a 'Saturday club' for cars over 3 years old, where the discount parts and servicing can be had.
Drop the car off at 8:30 AM and pick it up at 12:00 PM, which suits me fine as I don't have to organise a courtesey car, and can go shopping in town whilst I wait.

Bugger me, that is a bargain!! What VW dealer is it if you don't mind me asking? :happy2:
-
got mine done at awesome for the quoted price.
-
Sixpot,
Is that Warrington VW ?
I had my GT TDi done there a couple of months ago, and like you got a healthy discount from their "Saturday club" as mine was over 3 years old as well.
My wifes Polo sport is going in this Saturday for it's first MOT, which they have given us a half price voucher for ! Result.
-
i will have to go and lie down...the dealers doing thinks cheaper :signLOL:
-
That's a very good price... :happy2: And from a dealer too...

Yes mate, Warrington VW.

Dont you need a cambelt change as well though??
-
No-one has mentioned it, think its an inspection of the belt, and replacement only if necessary.
-
Think their right Sixpot. AFAIK both the Diesels and Petrols cambelts need changing at a given mileage (can't remember what exactly) OR 4 years what ever is sooner.
Mine had only done 38K miles when it was hving it's service last time but as it was it's 4th Birthday, it also needed a cambelt as well.
Although, I do stand to be corrected :happy2:
-
If the cambelt needs replacing, I certainly wouldn't be paying main dealer hourly rates to get it done!
-
Cambelt is 100,000 miles LOL on the Gti check the owners book

Cambelt is 100,000 miles LOL on the Gti check the owners book
Owners book says inspection 60k miles, and then every 20k miles after that. Mine does anyways.
However, that was later changed by VW to 40k miles or 4 years - whichever comes first - even though owners book says otherwise.
I think it may just be an inspection of the belt though at 40k miles - not sure, so you may wish to check! Many owners have had it changed at 4 years or 40k miles though - at least their dealers have stated it needs to be done.
-
i was told that its now 60k. I'm on 36k at 4 years but have been told 4 years is oversafe, 5 years just right and 6 years should be okay at a push
-
seee... all dealers arent stealers! lol
good price though.. we also have a 3+ club.. 10% of parts, 10% of labour, free puncture repairs.. cant remember what else (i set it up.lol)
ive just done a quikc quote on a gti for a 40k and even with 3+ discount, it still be £300.. thats for:
- oil and filter change
- spark plugs changed
- pollen filter replaced
- brake fluid change (due every 2 years)
the cambelt cant actually be 'inspected'. It is advised its changed after 40 years or 60k..

Wow, I'II be 64 when my cambelt needs changing then
-
^^ hey, leave me alone, im typing fast and its nearly home time.lol :P
i ment 4 years...
-
*Hijack - apologies*
So do we have definitive answer on the cambelt then? My car has just turned 4 years old and is on 63k, I was considering having it done in the next couple of months, or can I put the financial pain off for a while!?
-
4 years 60k is whats advised.. its obviously down to you as the driver and keeper, when its done..
-
I had a letter from my local dealer - book through myvolkswagen.co.uk and get a further 5% off the following...
2-4yrs old - 5% on labour, 5% on parts
4-6yrs - 10% and 7.5%
6-8yrs - 15% and 10%
8-10yrs - 20% and 12.5%
10+yrs - 25% and 15%
Also the note about a price match policy using genuine VW parts.
-
been thinking bout this all las tnight and £188 seems soooo cheap for a 40k service on a GTi..
-
Sure I only paid £199 for mine - price matches, then another £180 odd for the DSG change
-
it just sounds wrong...lol for oil and filter, spark plugs, pollen filter - thats about £100 worth of parts, then 1.9 labour time..
meh! its not my dealership.lol
-
£50 for the stamp :rolleye:
