Title: Rough idea of price please
Post by: golf nutter on February 13, 2012, 03:36:41 pm
Been considering selling of the GTi to yet again lower outgoings  :sad1:
I have looked on Autotrader and see that prices seem to be difficult to pin down so thought I would ask you guys, for a ballpark figure please...it will help me know what to do.  I am aware it's only worth what anyone is willing to pay for it but I think it's difficult to price cars in this climate.  Thanks.

March 2008, 3dr Reflex Silver GTi, standard, FVWSH, I am 2nd or 3rd owner (I forget and am at work doing this Sssshh! ). 32,000 miles, no options, totally standard and in great condition other than a small scrape (wife) on one alloy!  I bought this from a Honda dealership and they gave me a Honda used car warranty that runs until August.

I was looking other day and yeah the prices are crazy like a 2006 gti can range from 6500 to 10500 lol. Id say put it up for what similar priced Gti's are going for as is low mileage and 2008, shame its got no extras. But doesnt sound like your that keen to sell quickly so just put it up at 10500 or something and reduce if need be but people always going to knock you down. My budget was 9k but i still messaged people with cars upto 10500 as you never know lol.

10500 sound a bit much, your talking ED30 money there

I'd say put it up for 10250 with 9750 as your bottom line.

Prices have crashed in the last year for GTIs! I paid £10250 (in summer 2010) at a VW dealer for my 2005 GTI (Red , 17"s , Leather , Changer/armrest) I would be lucky to get half that as a trade in now , even on the fourcourt cars the same age as mine seem to be sitting at 7 something grand , sad times. I fancied upgrading to a newer model (maybe an Eddy or R32) but my negative equity says 'no' ! Hope you get a decent price for yours!

thanks for the replies guys.  no, i am not really too worried about selling...it would just be nice to lower my costs...but i absolutely love the car.  do you think not having loads of options puts folks off?  not sure that it would put enthusiasts off or those looking to mod as it's a clean slate start perhaps.  10.5k for an ED30?  high mileage perhaps yeah?  the market is well weird at the moment though!

Personally, I want as few options as possible when buying a performance hatch. Extra toys generally mean extra weight, poorer performance. I don't think you'll have a problem selling it, the magazine buying guides all seem to recommend manual gearboxes and cloth interiors anyway.

Recently got  one  although it  was  a 5 door  and  there  was  no car  with  your  descriprion anything  near £9500 and  most  were aleast £10700 upwards and  if  i  saw  one that  cheap i'll   think  there  was  something possibly wrong  with  it. I seached  all over  by  the  way. £10500 if  you  want  to  shift  it  quickly

It's worth a tenner.  Nobody wants a fast car at the moment.  It's the recession.

That's what I tell my wife when she suggests selling mine to save a few quid.

10.5k for an ED30?  high mileage perhaps yeah?  the market is well weird at the moment though!

All cars on ebay or autotrader at advertised prices (haggle even a little and your getting an Ed30 for 8k with high miles or 10.5k with ave miles)

07 plate ed30 71k 9995
07 plate ed30 91k 8495
07 plate ed30 ??k  8950
07 plate ED30 44k 11950 VW dealer
07 plate ED30 48k 11900 VW dealer
07 plate ed30 44k 10950
07 plate ed30 56k 11400
08 plate ed30 54k 10995
08 plate ed30 46k 11950

None of the above are listed as cat c or Cat d

As others have stated the backside of the market has well and truly dropped out im afraid, I know this as I was wanting an Ed30 for 8 months and in that time ED30 prices dropped from around 14-14.5k to around 12K.

If I was you I would be keeping the car and enjoying it if you dont NEED to sell as if you do your gonna have to take a big hit on it.

I paid 11.5K for my own 08 plate Candy ED30

still considerably nearer the 11k mark for a reasonable mileage ED30 though.

the market is well screwed up...imagine what it was like trying to shift a scooby sti prodrive 8mths ago when even a golf GTi is affected!  i took a right hit on the scooby.  but the cars i have looked at that are similar to mine are all 10.5k upwards...admittedly i have only looked on trader which is not much less than i paid for it last august.  wouldnt want to be a used car dealer at the moment.

Wow, I can't believe those ED30 prices! And they're only going to go one way as a result of the Ed35, Mk6 GTi & impending Mk7. By the time I'm ready to change, It won't be worth getting rid of!

I think you'll find the prices won't drop too much more....ED30 will retain good value for many years compared to other similar cars.

It dont make much difference if you keep a car for 5 years like I do  :happy2:

If you change every 1-2 years your gonna take a big hit, average that over 5 years and its cheap driving  :P

I agree, watch the equivalent Megane R26R and Focus ST's fall off the face of the earth while the ED30 will level out.

Reasons: limited supply and perceived quality versus that of competitors.
