Title: Does this look right ( VW Bluetooth)
Post by: edition_30 on February 13, 2012, 06:26:47 pm
I received my vw Bluetooth kit form a seller on eBay but if you look at the picture one of the wires is cut.

Is this the antenna & should it be like this?

Also, should I have received anything to mount the unit under the driver’s seat?

Thanks

Not sure on the antenna as mine was alot longer and had a large plastic part on the end, i do know some are shorter but havent seen one,  as for the under seat fixings did he state in the advert it had the under seat housing ?, that was really up to you to check i guess, is it a trader ?, do you have a link ?

no it was a private sale off e bay. no mention of the under seat fixings, i just thought it would come with the kit as standard.

can the fixing be purchased from vw along with a new antenna?

I'm not sure it's a hacked off wire, although it sort of looks that way, I think it's a BT Antenna - Possibly DIY.

N909 460 01 - Expanding Nut x2
N908 170 03 - Torx Screw x2

Is there anything else i need for the install?

Also luck with the mdi Steve, i think carsystems.pl has some, this the correct kit?

Nope no luck, so the car system's one is probably your best bet and the one in your post is the correct one  :happy2:

It would break my heart to have to give those twa@ts any money.  Have you thought about a genuine kit??

There are two options but the better one for glovebox IMHO is 5N0 057 342 at about £150 ish from your local dealer

is car systems not original then?

Also i want armrest version rather than glove box, is there any difference?

The car systems module is genuine but the loom will be aftermarket.

Post by: vRStu on February 13, 2012, 08:28:11 pm
VW offer an OEM kit as well for the arm rest IIRC.  The one I listed would work in the armrest but would give you just a trailing cable to put wherever you want rather than the slot type.

Car systems is a made up kit.  If you have the BT loom with the quad lock adaptor and then the car systems adaptor it will be very bulky.

is there any difference in quality/ audio quality etc with the after market looms?

to be honest i dont really need the slot as my iphoine is in a case and if i could have a cable from the armrest area i would be happy. I do want it to look neat tho, no manual cut-outs etc..

Are there different versions of the mdi that provide different functionality?

In which case I would suggest the kit I mentioned above with an extension cable 000 051 447 which will allow you enough slack to have it exit where ever you wish in the centre console area.

Thanks stu..

If i wanted the armrest version as im thinking it may be a nicer fit??  could i use the same extension cable too?

Yes the extension cable is just that so it will work for both types.

5N0 035 341E is the arm rest kit but I'm not sure if it includes a wiring loom.  The other kit I know does as I've used them.

VW should be able to tell me?

If it does not come with the loom then can this be purchased separately?

decided i am going to order the lot from kufatec..

in terms of the extension cable, from locking at the picture on the kufatec site the cable appears not to have the correct end connection for an iphone.

If installing the mdi kit in the centre console do i need the extension lead,

I thought it was one or the other,it definatly was on a MK5 with the basic ipod kit. I wasnt aware it was any different now but i may be wrong.

You still need the adaptor to go on the extension cable that you would have used without it.

Went to pick up the Mdi from vw yesterday. £240 with no loom!

They also wanted £120 for the loom. Decided not to take it. Have looked on eBay as there are a few but I'm not sure as I want an original loom.

Does anybody know of the loom kufatec supply with their Mdi kit is oem?

Thabks

Which part number?

This one, 5N0 057 342, is a kit and includes the wiring and everything you need but is the discrete version.

Kufatec make their own looms.

I'd be interested in the part number of the loom for £120,i wasnt aware VW did it seperate as i have looked before.

When you say discrete, glovebox fitment?

Do you think I would be able to purchase the armrest caddy on its own then use the kit you mention?

No because the loom wouldn't be long enough.

What should I do nxt stu as I'm lost for ideas. If possible I do want all oem but if not possible then it's going to be easy to order the lot from kufatec. Would you say there is a difference between the kufatec kit & car systems?

What's the difference with their loons compared to vw?

I think you are somewhat confusing yourself and making it more complicated than it needs to be. 2 options, with the cradle/dock setup or with the discrete 'flying lead' where the install is behind the glove box.

For the cradle type you need the longer loom to get from the radio to the armrest area. (I think you can fit a cradle to the glovebox but you need to have the right glovebox, previously with CD changer etc).

These can be bought from various sources with non OEM looms. The OEM loom is as you found out expensive.

For the discrete type the controller mounts behind the dash out of the way With just the part you need to plug into the device laying in the glovebox. What you can do is get an extension lead for this type that plugs into the controller and then the device lead (iPod / USB etc) plugs into that. You can then run that to pretty much anywhere it will stretch.

Non OEM looms tend to use quad lock male/female combo to achieve plug and play. I'm not a fan of these as they are big and bulky. One member here bricked his RNS510 with exactly one of the fitted with an MDI because the loom didn't connect CAN properly. The thread is massive if you ever come across it. He changed DVD drives and all sorts. He came to me for a ViM mod and I discovered the fault.
