Just a feeler to gauge interest for a RNS-510 Group Buy idea. If your like me and running on an RCD-500 or something similar, this may be of interest.
After speaking to one of the owners of http://www.oemretrofits.co.uk/ (http://www.oemretrofits.co.uk/) I have the following details:
Background Company info
OEM Retrofits specialise in the retrofit of OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) equipment to the VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) range of cars.
Prices
1-2 = £750 per unit
3-5 = £725 per unit
6-10 = £700 per unit
11+ = £650 per unit
For supply and fitment of genuine second hand refurbished RNS-510 units. The company is based in Bradford - West Yorkshire.
Warranty
30 days as standard on their sat nav units, however I've managed to convince them to offer for this group buy a 3 months aggreement instead to give a greater peace of mind.
Bluetooth Kits
They are also offering to fit a FISCON Pro Bluetooth Kit for the RNS-510 at the same time. All Bluetooth kits carry a 24 month warranty. Details of the BT kit: http://fiscon-mobile.com/products/rns_510.php (http://fiscon-mobile.com/products/rns_510.php). I have been told they retail at 400 euro's. Their price if ordered with an RNS-510 is £350.
They will also come with the latest version VW maps (cant remember the version number he gave me). And they are version A units (No Auxillary TV output) however they did mention that they could supply version B's (with Auxillary TV out) if someone really wanted one.

Ooh sounds interesting, never heard of this place, might go check them out.
Could be interested providing I can scrape the money together, which is difficult at the moment.
-
Just bought one yesterday... I would of joined this.
-
Funnily enough was on the verge of having one of their units fitted by them last week for £750 - but was then told that was the cash only figure and if I wanted to pay by card (which I did for added security/warranty etc) then you had to add another £112.50 for the dreaded VAT.
Is this still the case?
-
count me in for a group buy
-
do they have a vag part number on them ? if so what is it
-
I just bought one 2 weeks ago, great stereo and this is an excellent price!
-
Does make me wonder why they would have so many second hand units?
-
Not wanting to rock the boat as it were as it sounds a great deal but also just noticed from my emails with them that they said they could do the Bluetooth Kit for the supply price of £322 if fitted at the same time as the RNS510. As it was pretty much plug and play.
Just a heads up that all :happy2:
-
yep the bluetooth kit is really easily to fit.

Emailed them about this, turns out this is the case. Hmm wondering if the deal sounds as good now. They say the above prices (and those on their website) are exc VAT.

I wondered this so asked them how they obtained the units. They are sourced from a european company which refurb's them.
-
im interested funds permitting :happy2:

I was wondering that too!!! :scared: Are they that unreliable that there are that many about needing re-furbs?
Also to offer £100 discount on 11+ units means there's got to be a fair profit in these for them......
Anyway back on topic, I think you may well get nearer the 11+ if you put this up on a few forums as they are popular units.
I'd be more inclined to buy someones old MFD2 if they were upgrading as my car doesn't get much use to the expense of the 510 isn't really justified (prefer to spend funds on go-faster and stop-faster stuff).
-
I started reading and was very interested, but then read that they are refurbs - and the extra price for Blutooth kit, when they offered to someone else for cheaper makes me think twice.
Also I then realised the prices were ex VAT and they want cash only?!
Sorry guys, I would rather pay a little more and get a years warranty etc, with a brand new unit.
Apologies, but Im out ......
-
Im pretty sure the ones from TommyCupra aren't a lot more and they are brand new. :chicken:

Nath i am not sure but i believe the ones from Tommy are also these refurbed models, as far as i know you can not buy them new anywhere other. than VW. I could be wrong though.
-
Yeh tommys are refurbs unless otherwise stated
-
Then I repeat what I said earlier, where the hell are they getting all these faulty units? :chicken:
-
Agree with Greenouse - would be nice to know where all these refurbs are coming from, and why there seem to be so many?! Is the failure rate really that high?
-
i thought the ones from tommy were half inched from the place in the Czech republic where they make them?

I had that impression too. A bit like buying re-furbed mobile phones from some places only to find they are brand new!!!
Either that or all over mainland Europe there are VW owners waking up to find their expensive upgrade radio has gone walkies overnight.....

this was and probably is still true for allot of the units sold, especially so from the polish sellers from what i understand
-
All I have been told so far is that they "come from Europe" and there is a 2 week wait for orders over 2 units.
If you have a better idea please hand out the details rather than just slating this one!
Please dont shoot the messenger, it is just an idea to get things started.

Curley, where did you get your unit from? Was it a new unit or a refurb like these?
-

Me too. Had no idea they were refurbs.
Did a whole box load of these fall off the lorry as they were being moved, marked as 'damaged' and then being sold on? Something fishy going on.
Who else has the RNS on here?

I got mine from tommy. First one had a dead hard drive but 5 weeks later I had a version b. I paid £620 delivered but I got a lucky deal:)

Version B's are quite rare so I hear. I believe the only difference between A and B is the video output feature so you can connect additional screen's to the unit.

Yea everyone was after the board on vwnavi.com but was never clear about differences. I know the volume display is in a different part of the screen. Also some of the menu's are slightly different. Sure I read the interface to add external hd's only worked with version b
-
if you update a version A to version B with the firmware update its reported to work in just the same way as a newer B unit
-
I have noticed that atleast 50% of the ones on ebay seem to be refurbished/2nd hand units from lithuania.
-
feedback i had received from a guy who retrofitted one was the version A didn't work with his mfsw, the version B did, version B was made from november 2008
only come accross one car so far on the rocco forum where one guy has had to have his unit replaced due to the navigation system simply not working
few guys have picked them up off fleebay and seem quite happy

Does anyone know the part numbers for version A & B's?
-
Ive just bought one off ebay part number 1T0 035 680 B.

Yellow - Hardware/Software version?
Geen - Part Number
-
Not sure matey as ive not received my unit yet. didnt know they had the other numbers, i wonder what date mine is.
Let you know when mine arrives.
Edit. Just looked at the photo i received and the numbers are.
HW: H02
SW: 0800
Date 22. 02.2009 but could be 08, picture not that good on zoom.

Version B better apparently (so it goes on the VWNavi forum, people are always hunting for B-spec mainboards). I have a Version B in my car, but I've no idea what the difference is; I'm just spreading speculation, rumour, and hearsay.
-
I have been told that the only difference is that the version B supports video out. The A does not.
-
Pazz is correct - FYI this is what they replied when I enquired a few weeks back about the different versions:
Version B is the newer unit and the only major difference is that B has video out option in case you ever want to add rear screens in the future, although you would still need an external interface to do it. Other than that, they're really aren't any differences but since you've got a choice, I'd say go for a version B.
HTH :happy2:

Think I may of found a bargain! £550 cash for a 2nd hand refurbed unit and the chap lives 20 mins away so I can give it a close inspection before handing the money over. He says he will even show me it working, loading DVD's etc.

users on VW navi have reported that when you update to version B (from an A unit) that the video out option will work

Great news, buy it, you won't regret it :happy2:
