OK, so I bought a nice red GTI emblem of flea bay and was hoping to remove the existing silver emblem and replace. One hour later and I've removed various layers of skin from my fingers and the silver one remains, refusing to budge. Has anyone got any tips as to how you do this? I've removed the honeycomb grill and I can see the clips behind the emblem but they simply won't budge. :fighting:
Also, I'm pretty sure the red one won't fit even if I get silver one off! Has anyone else had similar issues??
Help!!

fleabay quality tends to be dodgy at best. I bought a £15 one but the quality was so crap, I didn't bother and instead spent fair whack for a proper one.
The GTI badge should unclip and if it doesn't you're doing something very wrong. Either way, you can do what I did:
- heat the red GTI up with a hairdryer
- use dental floss to prise it from the backing plate
- do the same with the silver GTI on the grille
- reheat the sticky bit of each letter before you apply it to the grille, taking your time to get the letters in the right place.

Bingo..top tip stealth, cheers.. :congrats:

Or snap off the silver gti with brute force then I had 2 drill honey comb 2 fit my red badge took 15 min max

Floss or cotton works mate then a bit of polish to remove the residue!

i wanted to do the same cheap mod (purchasing from Ebay) but noticed on close inspection it doesn't look all that good as the ones i've seen on grilles, the letters are bigger than plastic backing so looks tacky.
have heard the proper 1s are around £50.00, which i can't justify paying, but if you want it to look the nuts........

They're around double that!

They're around double that!
but how is the price justified?

They're rare and were only available in America. Hence the price.
