just wondering if this is possible and if anybody on here has done this
been thinking of it for some time now as i knw where there is a damaged s3 that i could get my hands on
thanks guys

Seems like a massive job too me. Surely an R32 is the answer if you want 4WD
-
Its relatively straight forward.
Most of the OEM bits bolt up.
You need the wiring harness and ecu from the donor car as well. You have to run wiring to the rear for the Haldex and you need an ecu that has the pins mapped for it.
The only hard part is the floor pan as you have to cut out your original and weld in the one from the S3.
-
yeah a lot of work my only concern was the rear axle and mounting for the diff etc but was thinking there more or less the same platform really :scared:
-
surely its easier to get an R32 and do an engine swap?
-
Thought floor pan on golf Gti is same as r32. Big enough tunnel??
-
or just get an A3 2.0tfsi quattro.... Obviously only k03 but engine swap i think would be easier or bigger turbo.

No, as you then don't have a ECU to accomodate the 4WD and 2,0 TFSI, so a bad move. but it's not that difficult with the right OEM parts. I know of a swedish Cupra with this conversion
@ SIE sparewheel well is the problem but just cut the front of it and it'll fit

Rear subframe from donor car with all bits will bolt up to OEM mounting points on chassis. You might have to drill a few holes for mounting the donor subframe, don't remember for certain.
You have to do the fuel tank and rear floor pan, then you have all the room for the rear drive bits.

Yup! Mechanically its easier to use swap the engine but since the R32 is ME7 and the ED30 or 2.0 TFSI is ME9 you have problems with the ME9 ECU from the 2.0 TFSI communicating with the other controllers in the car that are expecting a ME7 ECU.
Its not too hard to cut out the floor pan and weld in the new one.

Floorpan is not needed Keith, a bit of trimming is enough

A friend of mine has done it to his MK5 GTI with A3 parts so it can definitely be done. In fact he's thinking of selling it if anyone is interested?

I'll check with Allan on Tuesday when I see him, but if I remember rightly the only alteration was the removal of the spare wheel well.
