Title: key fob battery replacement
Post by: damoegan on February 18, 2012, 05:09:40 pm
Both of the Mrs' remote key fobs are dead, I've replaced them both but they still dont work. The LED on the fob's are working!

Do I need to re-programe them or something?

They dont usually need recoding after battery replacement so may have another fault.

Try remote key matching again

I had to replace the remote part of my key a few months back, just doesn't connect to the car anymore even though the LED works. Ended up getting another remote from Ed which worked perfectly.

will need 'recoding' again if you took longer than 40seconds to change the battery... was told this by the vw tech at birmingham vw...

but to recode its a piece of cake...

get in your car, lock the door using the button the drivers door, insert the key into the ignition, turn the ignition on (lights only) press the unlock button, wait 6 seconds, keep pressing the unlock button, eventually you should hear it unlock the doors.

this has worked for me twice now on two different mk5's! good luck  :happy2:
