I have just picked up a 5DR Red Gti on a 54 plate, whilst it is under the garages warrenty i have noticed a couple of things:-
1) When accelerating hard the change between 2nd and 3rd at high revs casues a slight crunch but is fine in every other gear at any of the rev range.
2) When accelerating in 6th on the motorway from 70mph to overtake the car fellt stange as if the wheels started to spin or lose traction, could these issues be linked.
The car is booked in next week to have the gearbox oil changed fingers crossed this will solve issue 1 at least, i am having the car vag com'd tomorrow to check if any faults are present.
Cheers for any input.

Get your clutch checked as well as it may be slipping.

I agree it sounds like your clutch has given up the ghost. :happy2:

Defo sounds like clutch :happy2:

Cheers guys, i'll be pushing for this to be changed asap.
How much is it roughly to have this done at a specialist?
-
Depends if the slipping has glazed the flywheel, or if you will get away with just the clutch.
Might be worth doing the crankshft seal too if the flywheel comes off.
Not be much change from 4-500 but just guessing.

....As others have said: Clutch probably. Slippage can give the sensation of loss of traction.
Also, check your tyres. If ESP activates it can cause a shift in traction.
Accelerating from 70 you ought to drop a gear to 5th. Don't be lazy and rely on torque - It's also safer if you suddenly have to brake or change your mind about the overtake.

Ever since Skoda replaced my needles and bearings in the gearbox(this was there cure for a goosed DMF) it now crunches from 1st to 2nd,
