Title: Dubflecta (wind deflectors)
Post by: boxxer1973 on February 21, 2012, 09:09:54 am
Recently bought these for my mk5.

why As any mk5 owner on here is aware mk5's in the rain with a window open is a no go,

Sourcing one of my friends had some dubflecta wind deflectors on his T5 and said that he was happy with them. So I contacted dubflecta and ordered some for my car.

Fitting took no longer than 2 minutes came with a concise fitting instruction

other versions there are other versions out there team heko for one

The benefits are decreased wind noise and no more rain over the window switches when window is slightly open

minus points for me were at first I was unsure if they suited the shape of a mk5 and that they catch your eye as your driving however I am now used to this.

In summary a great bit of kit for not a lot of money's they cost £35 + £5 p&p and if you like me enjoy fresh air rather than ac it's great as it helps eliminate wind buffer

I've bought some of these for my 5 door and I'm having a spot of bother installing them. I've inserted the plastic clips in the correct positions as shown on the instructions but the window anti-pinch keeps cutting in when it gets to the top.

Hi Mike,

I have sent you some more fitting tips via email. I am sure that you will get them sorted. Let me know how you get on.

Hi John, yes I've received your email, thankyou. I've got the windows to go up by pulling the deflector out slightly as the window comes up for the first few times, it seems to be doing the trick now and as you mentioned in the email you sent the rubber will eventually comply to the shape of the deflector. I might get the hairdryer on an extension lead and warm the rubbers up, should help! They look ace fit and quality wise, very pleased for the money. Thanks again. And it cures the dreaded buffeting noise you normally get with one window down.  :happy2:

Matt / Mike  :P

HI BOXXER, MPS has 5 door SLEEKs so they have a slightly different fit anyway. I would strongly urge you to get your clips fitted. Although the 3 door RETROs do hold themselves in very well there are alot of opposing forces acting on the deflector when you are doing motorway speeds with the windows down, I wouldnt want one to come flying off!!

I have had a fwe people asking what the MK5 5 door SLEEK deflectors look like whn fitted so I fitted some at Bristol Volks Festival this weekend and took these pics. They worked fine with the electric windows and I think you wil agree they look like they should be there.

.
So, how do Dubflecta's compare with ClimAir's versions?

I must say I really dislike the look of the Dubflecta 'Sleek'.

Can you post a direct side on view please. Thinking about buying these but just wanna make sure whether to choose these over the ClimAir ones.

Cheers

.
I think that the Dubflecta's look a lot squarer and chunkier than the ClimAir's. Also, I think that the ClimAir tinting is more subtle and a better match with the Golf's glass, window surrounds, and B-pillars.

Quite like the look of the Sleek ones myself, but can only find fronts on the website, and I'd be looking for a full 5dr set if I was to go down this route.

I want them to look as OEM as possible, and not sure I like the bowing shown by the Climair ones on RR's car.

Would be good if someone could put a pic of the Dubflecta, Climair and Team HEKO deflectors all in the same place.

^^^^
Boxxer's pic shows very well how chunky and square the Dubflecta's look. Nothing subtle about those IMO.

I have heard of other cheaper brands than ClimAir's coming adrift. It might be a case of buy cheap buy twice. Mine might look a bit bowed in my photos but in the flessh you simply don't particularly notice it as the Mk5 GTI has lots of soft curves in its body styling. Besides, my ClimAir's work faultlessly at all speeds
