Once again someone has smashed into my car door with their door in a car park and f**ked off without leaving a note :fighting: :fighting: :fighting:
Luckily, it has just hit the protection trim, but it's bad. 3 really big chips, and about 6 inches of paint off down to the black plastic. I'll put pictures up later before anyone posts the "this post is useless without pics" thingy!
VW has quoted 39 plus VAT for the long one for the door and 26 plus VAT for the little rear quarter panel one! And then I'll have to get them painted!
Has anyone ever filled these themselves and painted them, or are they available cheaper from TPS? I'll ring them in the morning for prices, but just wondered if someone could put my mind at rest.
Thanks, Ian

Sorry to hear that chap. You aint having much luck are you :sad1:
No idea on the prices from TPS but you may get them a bit cheaper if you ring and ask for a price then ask for a cheeky 10%

Cheers Carl.
No My car seems to be a bit of a dent magnet! At least my discs and pads don't need doing, so I can spend the money on trims!
I'll ring TPS and if they are cheap enough I'll get them, otherwise I might get watching a few Wheeler-Dealer Ed China bodywork efforts, and have a go at filling/painting the old ones. :happy2:

How did it go with your quote from tps? I've got a similar problem with mine. Not sure whether to have a bash myself.I've been told that they can be removed by using dental floss or fishing line and then doing them whilst off the car.Not sure what to do for the best.
-
I think these are fixed into the body, i was going to remove mine at one stage and it would have needed filling and repainting. Not an easy job and you will have to get the whole side of the car blown in too. :happy2:

I've not got a price from TPS yet, but I was in at VW this morning and got part numbers for a 3 dr, passenger side. I've heard TPS are more likely to sell to you if you have part numbers?
Passenger door trim 1K3853515AGRU £39.73 + VAT (VW)
Rear quarter trim 1K3853535AGRU £26.07 + VAT (VW)
For 2 thin pieces of plastic, FFS!
Really Top Cat? I was just going to either:
1) Prime up some new ones and get a bodyshop to finish them, then just fit them, or:
2) Whip them off, Fill, sand, mask, prime and then get them finished at bodyshop. No go then? :sad1:

They will come off and can be repainted. Colour matching is an issue.

How do you get them off?
On the colour issue, will I need to get them blown in as TC suggests?
-
Dunno. Mine was done by a bodyshop.

Can I ask you how much it cost you mate?

It was part of a door respray which was £500 all in. Expensive but no one could tell what part had been resprayed, even if I offered £50 as a bet!
