Hi all
I am shocked as to bad the stock GTI brakes are!
Is there anything i can do or any combinations you can recommend without changing to R32 brakes, or is it just worth saving my money and buying going 32 or aftermarket set up?
Any help appreciated!

I agree the brakes arent quite as good as i thought they would be,
There are a few options tho- RR has upgraded his to bremo's i think- he has written a review of them and i think hurdy has turox upgraded brakes. Im sure they will be along to help you in more detail.
I think R32 is the cheaper option - esp if you get some from flebay

R32's are more than enough for most people's fast-road needs. :happy2:

ive just upgraded to r32 fronts with ferrodo ds2500 pads there bedded in now and seem excellent and work very well, very happy with them

I have a set of Cupra brakes in the mail atm, chose those over the r32 since they have the right colour from start :happy2:

So are the cupra and r32 brakes the same apart from colour, no mounting differences?
Will keep my eyes peeled for some then, dont really want to go aftermarket as theres loads of other bits i would like to do with the money first!

R32's are more than enough for most people's fast-road needs. :happy2:

Just about any brake upgrade will secure you better braking, but as TD says, it depends upon how you are going to use the car. :smiley:

RR has the VWR kit, which unless I'm mistaken, isn't Brembo.
Harm, before you go and spend a shed load - what sort of condition are you brakes in? New (upgraded) pads, new discs and fluid and better tyres can make a world of difference.

When i bought the car only about 5 months tops, it had just had new dics and pads all round from the dealer (so guessing stock), and it has had it brake fluid change too!?
When fast private road driving, takes a lot of work to stop.....i've driven my friends GTI too, and his is the same?
Think i'm going to stick to finding R32 or cupra set up as everyone has said they'll be more than enough for road use, dont have plans to track the car so dont think i need aftermarket.

as much as i love the look of huge disks and calipers, i find the standard brakes perfect for my driving style and can't justify changing them. Suppose that's confirmed by the fact that after 4 years and 36,000 miles the original pads are still less than half worn.

Good stuff Monk, particularly on the pad front - I guess they're a better compound than the GTI's?

I just did the ring with stock discs and ate fluid and yellow stuff pads but had to turn the map off as they are just not up to the job of silly abuse :driver: so big brakes soon

I lunched my 312 OEM ones at Donnington last year, although to be fair, that track is hard on the old stoppers.... especially when playing with VXR Astras :ashamed:
They got too hot basically and I went home with a glazed, crumbly mess. Still, I got my money's worth out of them before the Alcons arrived.
