Title: decat without a remap
Post by: pd9264 on February 27, 2012, 09:06:09 pm
is it ok to run a decat on a gti without a remap. im was going to fit my decat and then get a stage 2 remap in a couple of months. or is it better to wait and do it all together. thanks

Should be fine! Im getting mine on wednesday! then remap in a few months once iv decided who! The worst that will happen is a check light for the exhaust because of the sensor but can be.cleared with diag software.

Engine management light will come on within 100 miles, this can be removed with diagnostics but will come back fairly quick. You can have the sensor reading removed as part of the remap (possibly depending on who you go with)

Also from what I can gather you can get an o2 sensor or spacer that will help trick the sensor / ecu into thinking everything is a.o.k and prevent a CEL being thrown. Thats what Im gunna do for the meantime until I get a remap. Ill let you know which one I end up getting and how well it works.

I was running a sport cat from December on stage 1 with no CEL, not sure about a decat though.

lovely job. iv just bought one from the for sale section and in the pics its got a long stub for the second o2 sensor. so may not throw up a engine managment light. well av to wait and see. :rolleye:
