Im having the whole engine bay shrouded in carbon, apart from looking amazing, it will be very effective at keeping the heat out of the intake, and also super light too..
Should be on tomorrow..

 :happy2:
Very nice!
Is that custom for you? As I've never seen that before!
-
^^^^
ITG? The gridded filter is typical.
Or possibly from someone possibly closer to 'home'
-
jonny,
what's the diameter of those carbon tubes???

Yep, all custom, even the filter.. Which is ITG Robin  Rated to 650+hp so I shouldnt struggle with restriction!!

ID is 75.8mm OD is 76.6

Heres a couple more pics.. Lots of work to get it in there, its pretty big that filter!!
Anyways still got to do all of the intake heat shields, all of which will be carbon with high temp matting on the underside to prevent heatsoak..
Pretty pleased with how it looks!! Goes well too!!

How does it sound Jonny?
-
Looking good dude, what's happening with your old intake?
Luke
-
have you got a seperate air feed to that filter from the arch??
Cos the it doesn't look like it'll get any air from the standard feed in the front grill!!!
looks bloody massive tho, no wonder its good for 650bhp lol.
so how much would that cost to the general public???

Yep, have an air feed from the fog grill, and there is plenty of air under the bonnet lol..
Its completely custom, and wont be sold on I dont think, unless someone copys it then sells it that is.. Cost about £500 in parts

:surprised: £500 for an intake set up! holy mother of......
there i was thinking the £200+ for the VFE kit was expensive.

Take off your accountant's hat, Lee!
Porn stars are expensive!

I like a lot! :happy2:

....
GruppeM looks like a carbonfibre python curled up under your bonnet! They do a lot work for BMW. Even I think it's overpriced!

^ Does this give you any further ideas, Jonny?
-
RR I think your pic shows a hybrid intake made up of the GruppeM with a shortened Neuspeed intake.
-
I think Bacillus is right, that's a hybrid - The GruppeM is just a carbon airbox off the standard sytem.
There's a lot of people say the OEM system is acually quite effective, the kind of people who don't sell intakes... Maybe not so much as you start to go into big power, but certainly capable enough with a decent filter.
Jonny, that intake is nigh on carbon boobies - I've a fun sized Mars bar for it!!!
-

....Well, The Red Temptress (VWR's 300R demo GTI) does pretty well on stock. Though I'm not currently up to date on what she's running.
-
I was looking around a lot of the VWR cars at Oulton and I noticed nearly all of the were running an OEM airbox with maybe a crude intake scoop at best - but then, they're all restricted to power output, so do they need the benefit?
I'm not convinced all the ones on the market actually offer any benefit, it takes a lot of thought and intelligent design to achieve something effective, and that is often too cost prohibitive to make it salable... who'd spunk that kind of money on the GruppeM one without absolute, independant proof it was worth the money?
-
^^^^
Which is why a pretty looking CF Carbonio and a decent panel filter such as ITG, is not to be frowned upon.
Btw, SnailMail left here today First Class to you with something black and shiny.
-
MMMMMMM......carbon fibre python....never thought I'd see those words together in a sentence :signLOL:
Jonny, that intake looks rather goddam sexy

What does a stock intake weigh? Including the filter?

Not sure actually, ill have to weight that for a comparison..
-
Stock intake is fine with a proper free-flow filter up to around 300bhp if we're honest, though above 250bhp and perhaps with a bigger turbo you're running into trouble.
Let's all of us be honest here, the only reason we buy an intake is for the looks
Computational fluid dynamics ftw, I sincerely doubt any of the aftermarket manufacturers have done much modelling work on their intake designs and it's all based on general principles :)

....And a liitle bit of extra sound (with some).
-
Never been a fan of aftermarket intakes as nobody has the same sort of time and money to r+d as VW. I believe that aftermarket intakes can work if given enough time and logs are done on road and dyno. Performance wise aftermarket ones should work better but vw need to look at other things when developing the filter such as engine warm up time etc.

Hmm.. I dont think so..
Its been proven time and time again, on a car with my state of tune an intake is worth up to 20hp when compared to the standard intake
-
That looks like a serious bit of kit Jonny, I bet it sounds awesome
