:ashamed: the passenger side headlight on my car is held on with a cable tie. :ashamed: so guessing the lugs or something are broke. :sad1: can i fix this or do i need to buy a new unit??
-
i think you can buy a repair kit from the stealers iirc
-
Repair kit costs £20 from dealers. Which piece do you need?
-
£20 squid defo beats cable tied headlights. Brahahahahahahaha
-
not sure which bit i need till i take it off have read somewhere have to remove the bumper :scared: anyone live near me in ipswich can help???
-
It sounds like a big job, but it only took me 45 minutes to remove my bumper, fit two new headlights and then put it all back together.
-
:happy2: come and do mine then :signLOL:. will have to borrow a driveway and will try the fixing kit.. anyone ever used it??
-
Where are you located mate? If you're local (unlikely) I would be more than happy to lend a hand.

I am not sure if its true or not, but I looking on this http://vwts.ru/electro/g5/g5_94_eng.pdf
shows that you dont have to remove bumper to remove headlights. Bottom screw can be accessed trough bumper trim strip.
-
Correct mate, but for the sake of an extra couple of minutes to completely remove the bumper, it is a lot easier and safer with it out of the way!
-
it CAN be done without removing the bumper....but i really wouldnt recommend it... you risk scratching your bumper around where the headlight is (ask me how i know!)
really is a piece of cake to remove the bumper especially with a pair of helping hands, lay down a rug/piece of carpet on the floor across the width of the car and the front just in case it does drop and so you have somewhere handy to 'lean' the bumper just incase you forgot to disconnect anything like foglights, or for when you have to disconnect your headlight washers
repairing the headlight lugs is a piece of cake, my advice is go slow with removing the material and constantly try fitting the replacement piece into the slots that are on the headlight - you dont want to remove too much.
i found a few dabs of superglue help too along with the screw and then pop it back in.
(also, if its the bottom two lugs that your replacing, make sure that the nut on the lug is out the same distance as on the original one as this will affect the alignment of the headlight etc, dont bother trying to turn the nut after you've fitted the piece to the headlight as you'll risk snapping it off again, best to use a socket and hold the plastic piece in a dish towel in your hand and tighten/loosen as necessary)
good luck!

thanks for the replies..

Right all done. Didn't need to remove the bumper just loosen it off. Found a vid on you tube.. The repair kit is a bit flimsy be surprised if it lasts long. Just plastic. Be better if it was made of aluminium .. :happy2:
