Hi guys and girls, I'm rob and I'm from Essex.
Looking into getting a MKV golf gti to replace my current BMW 120d M Sport.
I only went diesel to save up for my own place and now that is done I am looking to get a petrol car again.
My previous car before the BMW was a 310bhp focus st and that was brutal, totally miss the power of it.
I have got my eye open for a mk5 gti with lots of nice goodies hopefully.
Is there anything common or in particular I should look out for when buying a mk5 gti?
Also what are the actual differences with an edition 30, is it as easy to get 300bhp in a normal gti as it is in the edition 30?
Hope you lot can help! :-)

If you want 300BHP easy get the Ed30, stage 1 re-map on ED30 is 300bhp thereabouts whears getting Std GTI to 300bhp will cost a LOT more.
You can pick up an ED30 starting at around 8-9K now (10-12K for a good one)

Thanks for your prompt replies!
Is there anything I should check in particular when looking to buy? Any common faults?

Totally, I looked at converting my standard GTi to K04 turbo (what the Ed30 has, standard has K03 turbo) which you need to get up to 300-400 bhp. It was cheaper to sell my car and buy an Ed30 after all the mods needed.
Anyway, I'm settling for Stage 1, as I reckon around 240-250 bhp is more than enough power for a front wheel drive car. Saving the big money for a 4wd 2.0 TFSI, so I can get the power down more easily in English conditions.
