Went to my local vw specialist an he said that it was major, I new I had to do a belt oil and filter but he then started talking about plugs aswell is this true and he gave me a all in priv vw of £420? Is this about right?

I do plugs every service.

for a major service and cam belt at a main dealer you're looking at close to £700, so £420 is good value. the plugs should be done, yes. in fact doing them every 20k miles might be better - they only cost £45 anyway and you can do it yourself on the driveway
i dunno about VW but if you look in the front of my Audi service manual it tells you what needs doing when
