My mind went blank driving along a road i always drive down and i think i went through the speed camera over 30.. Sounds stupid i know but 60% of me is sure i was over thirty going past it. anyone know how long it takes to find out if i have bad news? camera is in roehamptom near the petrol station and iv heard rumors the cameras are deactivated if anyone has a way if checking?
I feel so stupid  clean liscence for coming up 6 years!!i would of only been doing 35/37 tops

Think they need to issue a NIP within 14 days of the offence for it to stand, basically you have a nervous three weeks-ish, sorry.
-
:sad1:
Better put the kettle on then.
Thing is the misses said she doesnt think we were going fast and i cant think if i was going over the speed limit. I cant even remember braking or accelorating thats how blank my minds gone. like that thing where your driving and miss your turn because your concentrating on something else. just have to wait and see i guess
-
Are the cameras on? Where I live all fixed speed cameras and traffic light cameras are off.

I feel for you. You can't concentrate and keep your eye on the road nowadays, you have to look at your speedo, how daft is that. There's an obsession with speed limits. "Oh sorry for running you over dear, I was concentrating on my speedo!" The worlds going mad! Mad I tell thee!!!

How can i tell if there off? my friend reckons theyve all been deactivated. i have to drive past it later so if theres a light or something i need to look for that would be helpful. i might pull over and spit on it.. kick it a little and spit on it some more. im soo good when it comes down to speed cameras in my area and places i drive that it makes me question whether i did or didnt go over the speed limit...
Tell me about it when i hit the average on motorways im glued to the speedo looking up less than i should (obv leaving a good distance between car in front)

Average speed cameras is what cruise control was invented for :innocent:

Retrofitting in a few weeks :jumpmove:

What police area (?) were you in?

Ah the joys of accelerating with the push of a finger
-
What police area?
i was in reohampton, sw15. wandsworth. It was the speed camera just after the petrol station coming up roehamton lane (the 30 that joins the 40 at the junction. near roehampton cemetry/asda)

I mean which constabulary covers that area, couldn't think of the word :signLOL:
-
Um i dont know. its covered by wandsworth counci but i dont know which constabury covers it
-
met police should cover sw.
-
 i dont get it? Would they be able to tell me?
-
dunno, just advising on the billys around that area.
-
:rolleye: may sound stupid but whats the billys?
-
Where I live the police website details all the camera locations, and confirms they are all inactive. Only mobile cameras are in use. Can't see the same sort of stuff for your area but it'd be worth a look :happy2:
-
billys - police
-
Ill try and check their site to see and maybe phone them tommuro to enquire. 14 days seems likw an age now.
Mvb theres not many police and i think iv only ever seen one soeed trap. its the fixed cameras but theyre so blatent you can always see them im more angry that its so blank and cloudy that i cant remember!
-
Edit: there are police, just not many that sit with speed guns.
-

I remember almost 7 years ago on holiday with the ex and I was chatting to a chap in our chalet who fitted those Specs cameras, he told me a few things about them which was interesting.
A. They dont work at night
B. If you pass one in lane A move over to lane B until you pass the next then move back to A and repeat, apparently they could not distinguish between lanes back then, he said there was a software update but that it was 18 months away so I could have worry free motoring for that time :ashamed
Pretty sure those loopholes are fixed now tho, I just stick cruise control on too!
Its not the Specs and Fixed site you gotta watch out for, its the little laybys just after a sweeping bed!!, or laybys hidden by trees until the last possible second, you can usually rely on people the other way flashing headlights tho, I think the police call that "perverting the course of justice" I think lawyers call it "highlighting an accident blackspot area to other road users" :P

they have 14 days to send you the notice but i bet there already rubbing there hands together and preparing to send it out Monday, if infact you have been snapped.

I would not worry too much in any case, no point stressing over it, you can always ask for the driver awareness course then no points on license.
-
go to www.whatdotheyknow.com and ask your local council a freedom of information request regarding the traffic regulation order for the speed camera that caught you speeding. you never know it may have expired, or might not have one.
Is this the right location??

The 14 day rule is a myth. Its not a technical ''get-out''. The police still have 6 months to prosecute.

I think Ill do that but I thought you had to be over a certain speed to be able to apply to it? I wasn't going stupid, probably only just enough to set it off if anything.

I think so it sounds similar, but the map isn't showing.
its just after here http://www.citikey.co.uk/display/shell-service-station-DE4NQ so its on the A306

If it was a normal Gatso they have to flash twice as thats how they calculate the speed with the marking on the road, I believe?
If it flashed once its not loaded, I believe?
I read an article about a guy who knew he was doing 30 when it went off and went to court. He then proved that the camera was set up incorrectly as the camera never lies so to speak and the distance he had travelled was less than if he had been speeding, double edged sword.
-
Do they actually take 2 pics then, and then calculate the speed travelled by the time taken between the distance travelled in both shots - hence the reason for lane markings etc?
Just wondering, as if the person mentioned aove went to court, how else would you prove the distance travelled and time taken?
-
"Speed is Distance / Time, hence miles per hour. You can measure this in two ways.
1) Time how long it takes a vehicle to travel a known distance.
2) Measure how far a vehicle travels in a known timeframe.
Speed cameras do the second of the two, but to do this and provide the evidence that the Police need, they have to take two pictures. These are always taken at a known time interval, so all that needs to be done to calculate the speed is for the Police to measure how far the vehicle has travelled between the first picture and the second."
-
So what your saying is that if someone went round at 3am painting all those lines with white paint to make them solid they cannot calc speed and its null
-
 like your thinking but i think you would need to make the gaps larger rather than just one big block.

Its probably easier to drill a hole in the case and pour in a pint of petrol like someone kept doing with the one just down the road from my old house, they must have replaced it about 7 times before giving up and removing it!

I believe that to be true yes.
There was one nearish to me that kept getting chopped off with a petrol grinder.
Then burnt etc etc.
Its still there though they must have give up before the rozzers.
To clarify, I actually believe there should be more in 30 limits. Also some of the 30 limits are a joke and should be 20 especially at school start and finish times.
It scares me when I walk the kids to school and I see some of these Soccer Mums driving like crazy.
Actually no maybe not more cameras but definately some way of clamping down on people who openly flaunt the laws and put people at risk.
-
Those who speed through villages or past schools need clamping down on and agred speed limits should be 100% adhered to , 100% agree with that.
What I dont agree with is Mobile cameras on a 60 limit road in the middle of nowhere with no junctions/side roads, thats just police cash converters!
-
Agree, its a can of worms all this speed and what who when where because there will always people for or against. the road i was in for examole should be a 40 or atleast the stretch i was on seeig as i was aboht to join a 40. Personally id put speed bumps outside schools or those strips across the road that makes the car shake when you go to fast. mobile are a pain, my misses dad had a co literally jump from behind a wall and got him in the countryside. with nothing around. your meant to immediately ask for proof of calibration as each speed gun needs to be calibrated that day and if they cant prove it you can contest it. well, that was what i was told at modified nationals way back!

There was a traffic cop in north yorkshire who would place his car behind a brick bus stop and wait inside the shelter. The road in question was a long stretch of straight country road after leaving a village he made a lot of revenue from his tactics as people began to accelerate out of the village into a 60 zone. He would catch them just prior to the 60 limit, caught me at 37mph.

Same thing in my village. There is a 30mph stretch all through the village that turns into a 60mph.
IMHO fair doo's its not 60mph until you pass that sign, its not a run up!
Its 30mph for a reason, the reason is that there is a Garden Centre with Entrance and Exit, a row of shops, a Dentist etc etc.
Loads of people scream through the 30mph at 60mph just because it leads onto the straight.
There was a mobile camera there the other day and some idiot friend of a friend posted on FB where it was, she got torn a new one by everybody and she removed the post.
