Hi all. I was driving along the a43 last night going back to Portsmouth. When I hit a rock in the road. It has rote my alloy off and prob done more damage to caliper as it makes a funny noise and I don't mean telling jokes lol. Here is my alloy
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi967.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fae156%2Fgazman1011%2F80dffdc7.jpg&hash=2449446fdfbbdc2489a099772fcfe4ca350b21fc)
Anyone selling a single 17" monza alloy.
Ps sorry cant go to ultimate dubs now as I need to repair the car.
-
WOW never seen an alloy do that before :scared:
Lucky did not result in something more serious.
Sorry not got a spare alloy.
-
can second never seeing an alloy do that before! guess its a good thing they were genuine and not aftermarket! probably a good thing your tires didnt decide to shred themselves to pieces too... can you not claim against the highways agency because of the rock?...(in a similar way how people claim against councils etc for potholes? just an idea...)
-
I never seen it ether. And there is no damage to the tyre at all. Lol. I have called the highway agency and I was told there is no evidence to suggest its there fault. No witness's and no rock lol. My word against there's. Well possed off. It's ruined my caliper to I think.
-
What the hell is a hifly tyre? :signLOL:
Glad you were ok, could have ended up much worse.
-
Bloody hell...
But seconded... why on earth do people put such crap tyres on powerful cars!
-
There suppose to be comfort sports tyres. And it could of been worse yes. I did loose control but kept it straight just. Was lucky no other traffic. I sh*t myself.
-
chaps....whats with the tyre bashing?!
if these were such 'crap tyres' then they wouldnt have held up to such ridiculous abuse which resulted in the alloy having a tear in it! if anything i'd say those tyres are pretty good for taking that kinda hit and not shredding at speed!
-
I'll tell you now. Not sh*t tyres far from it. These tyres prob saved me crashing. And causing more damage. I had the tyre removed today and it's good enough to go back on lol. But I'll buy a new one anyway. Same brand!
-
Wowser, thats some hole (No pun intended), it will be impossible to claim from highways unless someone saw you hit it and you have the rock as evidence, I tried to claim for a new tyre a few years back when I hit the mother of all potholes on way back from manchester (there were about 15 of them in the stretch of half a mile), it damaged the sidewall as when i got home there was a 2" egg sticking out from sidewall. I called local authority and was passed from pillar to post they all kept claiming that it was not in their patch, I gave up eventually after 20 emails and 7 phone calls, if I had more time I would have pursued it, but for the sake of £100 I could not be bothered to...
My phone calls must have worked tho as 10 days later that half mile stretch was completely re-surfaced :fighting:
-
There's an argument to say the tyre being so crap/soft is what's ruined your alloy. Certainly is in my opinion.
I ran over a brick on the M56 years back, it ruined the tyre's structure, but the rim was perfect.
-
Well tbh I'm safe not as much damage as first thought so buy a new alloy and might even buy a full set. While I got caliper off I'll get it painted and fit the lowering springs.
-
I'd be checking the alignment too, that's some hit it's taken.
-
Well I'll strip it all down have a look just incase get it all re aligned tracked and everything. And I'll keep my old alloy as a plant pot on my drive lol.
-
Surely something is not right their? :chicken: did you have any air in the tyre. Even if you hit a kerb at high speed it would just buckle the wheel. That looks like a missile strike.
Is it a OEM Monza.

Easy fellas, the blokes just had a right old scare, and you're having a pop at his tyre choice!
Let's just be glad that one of our own is safe and sound after what must have been a terrifying experience.
:happy2:

Well, I don't know about you, but it'd have scared the sh*t out of me! I hit a lump of concrete on the A3 in my Mk4 1.8T a few years ago, and it cracked the alloy and burst my contisport tyre. Lost control, and only just got it back before I'd have ended up in the Guildford car boot sale! You're a hard man, Top Cat!
-
It looks like its been shot!
-
What the hell is a hifly tyre? :signLOL:
manufactured by Shandong Henfeng Rubber & Plastic Co in its manufacturing facility in DongYing
-
LOL
It's Terry Waite I feel sorry for.....
I worried about his allotment.
-
I would genuinely change that tyre. It has taken a right hit, and probably has unseen damage.
Don't chance it IMO.
-
Guys it's not a nice feeling honest. When I hit I remember shooting across te road in other lane ten pulled back and almost hot the soft verge. I don't want people taking the piss. I know I expect it. I don't mind. But the car is ok just. I'm ok just 2 stone lighter lol. Now have brown leather. Lol. I'm in the royal navy and I had to explain it all today to the royal navy police. Lol. But all is fine. And yes it's a OEM monza. Lol. Anyone know anyone selling a monza alloy. Ad anyone near Halifax west Yorkshire. At end of month as I gotta go back so home at end of month and want to plug vagcom in and have a scan.

No I was driving to Portsmouth. I was on the A43. Just off m1
-
I would change that tyre as well as you don't know what the condition of its sidewall is after that impact.
-
Yea I'm not keeping it anyway. It's making a nice plant pot. Lol
