Title: Spark Plug change?
Post by: SteveS on March 06, 2012, 10:45:50 am
60k Miles or Kilometres??

Citygate tell me its miles so my car doesn't need them, HQ says 60 is kilometres = 40 miles and therefore does require them.

?

Thats what all VW garages will tell you, Doncaster told me it was 60000 miles. They need changing every 20k really especially on something mapped like yours.

i can understand they needing doing more regularly due to my map, but VW wont consider that, so whats the official VW word. they cant make up their own mind!

IIRC Doncaster told me 60000 miles. Its irrelevant TBH,  just ask them to change them.

it is relevant as its part of my service plan. so i shouldn't have to pay.

At your stage of tune the standard sparplugs wont last before needing replacement. I would spend £20 and fit some aftermarket ngk bkr8eix which are more suited to your engines requirement.

Switching form the OE plugs on mine to the iridiums was a clear step. The engine ran smoother and there was less timing pull when pushed hard.  The OE plugs are fine to a point but at your power level I would want the best.  There is a thread on these plugs on this forum and people who are standard K04 reported improved performance. I am stage2+ K03 and am switching from the NGKS 7s to the 8s as they are more suited to the level of tune.
If you are staying OE then you should really change them every 20,000 miles as 60,000 miles is far too long for a plug.  Personally I change mine every oil change but thats just me :rolleye:

VW said they will just do it and argue over it later. VW and HQ are now arguing over it.
So hopefully they get done and then I'm outa there.
