Title: thoughts on spacers and handling etc
Post by: jimk04 on March 06, 2012, 08:13:58 pm
I fitted some 12mm spacers in readiness for my BBK today.

First thing I noticed was lighter steering - which wasnt a surprise as I remember fitting some 8x15 ET 25 to my mk2 and had a similar effect.

It tramilnes and torquesteers a teeny bit now - but not enough to hamper 10/10ths progress.

Biggest quandry is that I'm not 100% if traction/grip is slightly reduced. Had a quick blat tonight about half 5, quite salty still on dry roads from last night - but I saw the traction light and had a few moments of understeer that maybe I didnt expect...?!

I havent fitted the rear spacers yet as they need machining down as the spigots wont fit together properly - the spigot in the rear disc is too tall for the spacer to sit flush on the disc..

The front end might be out of balance slightly, but i doubt they would have a noticable effect on a heavy front end already. I would get the geo set up by somebody like KPM who know how to set a Golf up. It could be money well spent if it is out a bit.  :happy2:
