Make sure you've got all the bits.

You'll also need.

Trolley Jack
Axle stands
19mm 1/4 socket and long bar

Safety First...  :signLOL: I don't like going under cars so trolley jack and 2 axle stands is pretty much fail safe. Better to be too safe than dead.

Locate mount in subframe

Use 19mm socket and undo
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7186%2F6820479744_45a86fdb0c_z.jpg&hash=4394bee17bc1d2998b204e62715df67ebc46e85a) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/richwigley/6820479744/)

Lube up your insert...  :chicken:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7070%2F6966600845_4cee43ba6c_z.jpg&hash=ce16dcc927b37ad4195d04f51c0cfc61f5e238d6) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/richwigley/6966600845/)
Untitled (http://www.flickr.com/photos/richwigley/6966600845/) by Rich Wigley (http://www.flickr.com/people/richwigley/), on Flickr

Line up the mount with the larger piece towards the rear of your car
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7046%2F6820481770_2f9faa8f82_z.jpg&hash=f7194203b86518f89039ccaab30e85e800cc55a6) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/richwigley/6820481770/)

Because the mount itself is in two bits (top and bottom) you might need to wiggle the insert quite a bit to get it into the top part of the mount.

Place small washer in recess
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm8.staticflickr.com%2F7047%2F6966604105_2775c9dc9f_z.jpg&hash=4304007aebb1e420a8bab96dc9c627624a3643b8) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/richwigley/6966604105/)

Place large washer onto of that and replace the bolt.

Tighten up to "TIGHT" setting on your arm wrench.  :happy2:

Done.

Rich

It's recommended that you use a new bolt with this install as the original may have been stretched if torqued correctly. Bolt to be torqued to 100Nm + 90 degrees according to T_T.

Noticed a difference driving the car back home after getting this fitted along with some other bits and bobs  :driver: gear change definitely feels tighter and more positive

My rear engine mount is looking a little worse for wear (rubber looks like its got a few 'stress' marks in it) would it benefit from getting one of these inserts fitted into it before it fails completely or should i just get the complete mount replaced?...

Changing that complete mount it a ball ache. You have to remove the subframe and remove the old mounts, then get new mounts pressed in, subframe back on and the get the front re-aligned.

I would whack in an insert :-)

just ordered a red 'diesel' insert will be fitting it over the weekend!

is it possible to also remove the 'dog bone' mounting' without any extra tools other than a socket wrench whilst the car rests on its wheels over a pit or would it require lifting the subframe etc? (managed to convince my mechanic to let me borrow his pit on sunday morning)

It might be wise just to offer some support on the gearbox whilst you remove it. Why do you want to take it off anyway?

Ohh ok, yeah its dead easy to remove the rest of it, just 2 other bolts. Just support the gearbox with a jack.

£17.66 incl VAT from eurocarparts btw in case anyone was wondering! thats for the 'R' version of the mount for soot-chuckers!

they dont keep them in stock but can get them either same day if ordered before 11 (i think) otherwise next day!

I have noticed a slight increase in vibration in the cabin, especially on over run, not an annoying amount though.

did mine last week...

think mine may have been over-torqued the last time it was taken out but managed to put a slight tear in the rubber using a spanner so the mechanic used his impact gun to open it...

fitted the RED diesel one to mine, noticed more vibration in the cabin, especially when trying to find the biting point...almost a bit less forgiving when rolling at lights etc!

but certainly more 'tight'!

I've got a THS mount to fit, when you say re align.. What needs aligning?

Because you have to remove the subframe to install the THS or solid type mounts you will throw out the front geometry unless you can get the subframe back in exactly the same position as before *breath*

I am hearing and feeling a slight knock during gear shifts, do you think this mod will cure it?
