Title: Mk6 GTD
Post by: Oli on March 09, 2012, 06:24:43 pm
Im going to order my wife a GTD with the following spec;

5door Golf GTD
Candy white
18" alloys
DSG
rear airbags
dynaudio
sunroof
xenon's
heated seats
cruise
Parking sensors
RCD510/RNS510??
lux pack

Can I save myself some money and retrofit cruise control and the RNS510 - is it all plug and ply like the MK5. Will it work with the dynaudio etc?

Cheers in advance

Oli

They had problems with the cruise control from about 2010 and the kits have literally only just been released, some of them need the steering column ecu and some dont so fitted price is either about 230 or 400 depending if it needs it or not,i think i would save any hassle and order it.

I have noticed that any mk6 that has an RCD doesn't have an aerial and the ones that have the RNS have the shark fin on the roof, not sure how this would effect retro fitting but my mk5 hasn't got an arial and an RNS retrofitted fine with the GPS puck

I'm sure you could retrofit the sharksfin.

Can you have the Dynaudio without RNS? Regarding the cruise dunno. I would say factory fit just in case.

I was quoted £200 on a 5-door DSG GTD. Otherwise the spec, excluding colour, was very similar to that.

A mate of mine has a 61 plate GTD and he couldnt have cruise control as it wasnt available at the time. He had a phonecall last week to say that it is now available. Very nice car though :-)

How old was it? 2009 and 2010 use same stalk as Mk5,2010 onwards has a double stalk with the wiper switch part of it.

The price difference between retrofit and factory is minimal i think since the car is being factory ordered anyway it would be better on this occasion.

The dealers will now retro fit cruise for 170 so speak to your dealer for a deal.
Satnav easy retrofit did mine easier than mk5

I've sold my wife's car, so I've managed to get a GTD out of my local dealer for a long weekend. It's a very basic spec, in fact I don't think it has any options, bar 5 door and metallic paint, but all the same I have to say, so far I'm very impressed. We've done approx 90 miles today, over a good mix of roads, mostly town, and it's averaging 48mpg :surprised:  I've been having a good play in it as well.....  Engine sounds great for a diesel, but I understand it's been enhanced digitally??, performance is ok, but a pain in a manual as you are for ever changing gear and short shifting, due to the smaller rev range- we will be having the DSG, and I'll get it mapped to approx 200-210bhp, which will satisfy my needs until I decide what car I want next! Handling is good, but we'll have the 18's not the 17's as fitted to the demo.  To be fair it'll be perfect for my wife, she's loved all the golfs we've had previously, and even though she doesn't do many miles, diesel is the better option, as we'll hardly have to fill it up and in this ever increasing fuel price culture we're in, it'll be an added bonus, and she loves driving this one bar the manual gearbox.  Her driving is mainly town - school runs etc, so this will be easy to park, and manoeuvre.

Looks wise, I think they've got it spot on, but then bar the rear stripe and exhaust position it looks the same as a GTI - I may change the grille trim to red as I think it looks better than the chrome. And I like the dark grey of the demo, I'm pretty set on white, but come order time, I could do a last minute switch!

The sat nav is a £2k dealer option, I can get them refurbed with a warranty for approx £650, so hardly a few hundred pounds.  :P

surely with the wife doing low miles and short trips a petrol would be a better option? I thought diesels did not like those sorts of journeys

I have a dilemma with the GTD and an ED35 at present, given the miles I do (40k+ a year) I should really get the GTD and have found a very nicely spec'ed one on a 61 plate in Carbon Grey with lots of options (all the bit I would want like LED Xenon's, sunroof, lux pack etc) which the head says is the way forward, but my heart says get an ED35 for which isn't much more to buy but will cost more in the long run for sure (plus the slippery slope risk is much greater with the ED35  ).

^ Go with the heart.

Have been debating whether to go down the GTD or A3 TDI route for about half a year as I do about 15k a year (not a patch on 40k right enough!) but have put a deposit down on a S3 Sportback instead.  You only live once after all...  :ashamed:

GTD is a great car though, surprised me how nice it was to drive and sounded.

^^^ I see your point, but already having the Mk5 toy which ticks the performance boxes and the Mk2 GTI for everything else the GTD won the day.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fkk207%2FStevep_010%2FHighResImage.jpg&hash=8fc82b346af705163c0826a3842ba4b69f516912)

Once it's mapped and has a cat back exhaust then I am sure it be a pretty good all rounder.

Plus this way I get to spend some of the money saved on fuel every month on some more crazy mods for the Mk5

This is what I'm optimistic about Steve (but with the A3 170tdi Black Edition in my case).

I would hope to push towards some healthy torque figures and as close to 230hp as sustainable with map, zaust' and intake.

Yep deposit left on it over the phone as the dealer is a fair distance from me.

The spec is 5 Door with DSG in Carbon Grey with Xenon's, Conv Pack, Lux Pack, 18" Charly Shadows, Cruise Control, Sunroof, Leather, RNS-510, Front and Rear Sensors.

Rear camera, Colour Highline Dash, TPMS and Door Warning Lights will all be retro fitted ASAP

I gotta say that although I personally don't much like the styling of the Mk6, your GTD looks really great in that grey, Steve - It really transforms it for the better. I still don't like the wheels though. But so what! I say enjoy it and drive it like you stole it!  :drinking:

Finally got my order in, and have ordered in carbon grey with the following spec;

5 door
Dsg
Rns510
Dynaudio
Rear airbags
Parking sensors and rear camera
Cruise control
18" wheels
Luxury pack
Flat tyre sensor
Storage pack
Xenons
Colour multifunction display

And obviously leather and Bluetooth are standard now.

Looks like my dealer has got a build week at the start of May.

Very nice Olly, pretty much identical spec to mine  :happy2:

Picked mine up on Monday and I am very please with it, the engine is very smooth and sounds pretty good for a diesel.

Performance wise in standard form it isn't going to set the world on fire but that has been resolved with a trip to Revo today.

The remap doesn't change the power delivery as such as it does on the TFSI's, it just seams more egger and gains speed much much quicker

Might have some interesting DPF developments in the pipeline to that should help to get some more power from it too  :driver:

I love a sunroof, but also use air con.  I find with climate I never turn it off.

Note to all those with a/c, make sure you use it every week, to keep it in good condition, stops beactera build up, and stops the seals drying out.

My car should be going into build soon I think, Ive just emailed the dealer to find out.  I thik I will get it sometime in June.

Talking REVO, as Im going to have it done wehn I collect it, does anyone know the approx cost with a SPS unit?  I usually pay approx £300 for an Oettinger map, but I want it switchable on the GTD.
