Title: Uprated pulleys, discharge pipe and intercooler pipes
Post by: djhorace on March 09, 2012, 10:48:45 pm
I have been looking at one or two bits from Awesome GTi - bits I never had on my old car, but wondering if they actually do make a difference to the performance on the car and any negative/detrimental effects from having them fitted. They are specifically;

Uprated pulley kit

High flow turbo discharge pipe
http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/product.php?xProd=14165&xSec=360

High flow intercooler pipe

Also interested to know how the folks on here rate each one, or if they are a waste of cash :)

Chers,
Al

I noticed a slight improvement with discharge pipe.  Didn't pay full price so was worth it.  Some have Dyno proof of a few hp.

I think bottom pulley would be barely noticeable but I will try one nex cambelt change

Hi flow throttle body pipe I'm having made by Alex Kerr @ AKS tuning.

All of the above don't seem great value for money but I'm doing them to give the last bits of performance enhancement.

I have turbo discharge pipe on mine and actually think it makes a difference. The car seems to feel smoother through mid rev range and alot freely, i also bought mine second hand so actually think they are decent value for money if you cac pick one up second hand. I think bacillus has one for sale but is for a k03 but they can be machined to fit. Cost is about £25-£30 to have that done.  :happy2:

I have the sfs boost hoses fitted and they do make a difference. I wouldnt bother with the pulley as it rotates easily enough with the standard one. People who have fitted them have reported they are a waste of money.

Thanks lads. Which are the best ones to go for? I have had a look at the ones on Awesomes website - having never seen any alternatives, I have no idea if the prices they are charging is the going rate? Seems to me to be hellish expensive for what they are?

I don't have the Neuspeed pulley. I have the Agency Power pulley because it is oem size not an under-drive like Neuspeeds. Anyhow, all of the pieces you are considering will be difficult feeling noticeable power gains. I have them all, and all were installed at the same time. Most do not feel much if anything from the pulley plus you will be eliminating the harmonic-balancer of the oem one. Anything other than fueling, turbos, and remaps I call "Sum parts". Because the sum of their minimal power increases eventually add up.

Thats interesting. I saw your signature with parts, but only saw one of the two pipes listed though (or am I blind?).

I am a bit of a synic and have to be honest and say I wasn't all that sure these would make any difference although I would have expected at the very least the smallest of changes?

Sso in your opinion, if you had your time and money again, would you still have bought them knowing what you know now?
