Title: Water in mirrors after washing
Post by: Mk5 GTian on March 10, 2012, 09:03:25 am

How do you get the water out of the mirrors after washing? I've tried getting some material in under the glass, but still sometimes drive off and get a spray down each side, which ruins all my work. Any ideas gratefully received.

Leaf blowers do the trick, or a hair dryer i assume ?

I fold the mirrors in and back out. The "snap" is usually enough to get the eater out. Alternatively take the car for a quick drive and hard brake. Clears the water out and sorts out the brakes.

Funnily enough Stealthwolf, I just tried the snapping in and out of the mirrors, and also the blowing method, but I still got a few drops, but nothing like what I usually get.

Do you go for the quick drive before drying off?

No I fully dry the car and then drive it (not far - 200 metres), spin the car around and drive back. Tend to get no or very little dust and I pat dry the areas where there's water drops. Commonest places for me tend to be wing mirrors, door sills, fuel flap and boot, as well as rear window.

I normally dry all shuts and sills last but you will always get some trapped water unless you force it out (pet dryer or airline).

Great thanks for that. That was my concern, getting dust or dirt on it and then re-drying the forced out water, but I'll give that a go next week and pat-dry them.

It must just be me then who puts little plastic bags over the mirrors with an elastic band holding them on. Once the car is fully rinsed after washing i remove the bags and do the mirrors last. Then straight onto drying stage...............how sad am i?  :rolleye:

No water drips from the mirrors though
