Can anyone help me with getting a wedge off apple computers?
I'm after a MacBook pro 15" as mine is currently on life support.
Thanks
Rich

Give me your ideal spec and I'll let you know how much I can get it for :happy2:
-
Know any students? Best way to get a decent discount.
-
find someone who has their own business and put it through their books and get the vat back

I can get the base 15" for £1213. That's around 8% discount, and then loosing the VAT on top of that.

Could do, if you do that online do you have to prove anything?

Ooo that's good, do you get a discount on AppleCare too?
Thanks

i run a rather large macbook pro that came with a very healthy discount thanks to a CSI student
-
Isn't students discount 8% as well?
-
my machine should have been £3k but i paid £2.5k so whatever that works out at?

Its better than 8% iirc. You also usually get a free iPod or something thrown in as well.

Hi mate,
Well I got the top discount when I took my nephew to the Applestore.
I got £500 off the price of a top-of-the-range MacBook Air. :happy2:
Also my nephew works full time, but he does a 1day a week university course at a local college. :stupid:
I spoke to a guy at the Meadowhall store and he said that's fine....just bring your student I'd card.
My nephew then realised that his card had expired. :surprised:
So he paid £12 (I think) to renew his card but it was gonna take a few days to arrive.
The guy at Meadowhall said, just show us the email saying your card has been renewed and you can have the uni-discount.
He also hinted on that it didn't matter that my nephew wasn't the owner of the MacBook.
Nice people those Apple people :innocent:

AppleCare is still reasonably expensive through our Corporate Perks scheme - £246 for a MacBook Pro. I think it's normally £279.
At the end of the day, the VAT is the biggy. No amount of student discount is going to lose you that amount of money.
-
My i7 MacBook air should have been £1700+ in total.
I paid £1200
-
.
Andrew is right - 20% vat is the one to dump! Vat is a criminal tax!! :fighting:
With student discount you are allowed one laptop and one desktop change every year.
-
You sure? I've order a few MacBook Airs and I've never been able to spec one even near £1500, let alone £1700 (unless you're talking about additions like AppleCare).
Lovely machine though.
-
Yes Andrew, it was the top i7 4gb 256 13" MacBook Air with the extra 2yrs AppleCare :happy2:
£1648 in total plus £65 of giftcards = £1713 (I know it was a freebie, but still worth £65)
I paid £1236 in total.

So how do I get it VAT free?
-
You'd need to get the owner of a VAT registered business to buy it for you.
-
You can buy online at Student rates if you know how. I won't post it publicly but happy to share with genuinely interested parties via PM.
If it is abused it will be stopped so it's in the interests of everyone to keep it low key.
-
A 15" 2.2 Ghz MBP is £1332
A 15" 2.4 Ghz MBP is £1572
Apple Care is £60 however all Edu purchased computers have 3 years cover IIRC the £60 just give full phone support, again IIRC.

Yeah I know about that method. :happy2:
Don't they check?

Not that I'm aware of

Might be my best option then.
