I was previously a 350Z owner so moving away from jap is scary. im looking to start tuning my gti but dont really know where to start and what aftermarket products are best. exciting stuff starting a new project on a new car! any suggestions advice would be great.

Welcome, great choice of car. Mine is also a 2.0T, standard at the moment, but booked in for a Stage 1 PDT remap on 2nd April. Can't wait!
I'm also planning a Whiteline Anti-lift kit (WALK) which reduces wheelspin, an issue with front-wheel drive, especially from launch. I guess that's one of the biggest changes for you, from rear wheel drive to front wheel drive? I really struggled from launch, as I'd come from 4wd, but the guys on here taught me the technique required to get away efficiently and quickly.
As a newbie, I was also told to search NQSBBK (Not quite so big brake kit!) and for tuning/remaps I've generally been steered towards JKM, R-Tech, PDT, Shark performance, and REVO of course!
Enjoy your driving! :happy2:

Ideally you'll want to balance and exploit any performance mods with handling mods.... Including brakes. It can quickly become expensive!

hi and welcome! I'm also a relatively new owner had it about a year an a half now, the car remained standard for a good 11months and then thought bugger it and went for a really simple DIY mod of fitting a cold air intake that i bought from TT on here, it sounds great and ever since its snow balled haha hope you enjoy the car mate they're amazing fun an much better than jap and everyone one here is very helpful! :happy2:
