Title: Help needed quick please :) (gti skirts)
Post by: Dave_TDI on March 12, 2012, 02:12:56 pm
Hi :)

Me and a mate are in the middle of fitting GTI skirts on his tdi,

We have trial fitted them using the 2 screw holes but the gap between the sideskirt and top of the sill/bottom of the doors is about 10mm, is this right or should they sit flush with the top of the sill?

Just thought i would ask before we start drilling holes in his sills :grin:

If somebody could measure the gap on their gti it would be a massive help

Any chance there was previous rocker damage? Or perhaps the rockers are not the same. I had rocker damage before and the shop could not repair it correctly for skirt fitment and they needed to cut the rocker off and replace it. I recommend checking the rocker panel part number and if they are the same and no previous damage is present, you may need to add a good quality double sided body tape with a good prepping where the tape will be. If the parts differ, then only replacing the rockers may work for you. Lots of labor involved. Perhaps some adjusting to the back side of the skirts will allow good fitment. Definitely should look for best fitment before final application though, as tape will often let go when done incorrectly.

I wanted to post a pic of mine when it wasn't right, but photobucket is being funny right now.

Here is a pic taken when I got it back from the shop and it was done wrong;

Now there is a new rocker panel welded into place so skirt fitment should be perfect next time I see it.
