Hello people. New to the forum. Golfs. The internet etc and need some advice.
I want to get a set of alloys for my mark 5 FSI. I love my car but having standard wheels on it is not cool. So anyway, I want to buy some 18 inch monzas for it. I have trawled ebay and found a few sets. Most need refurbishing or the seller looks a bit dodgy. Fortunately I live right near this alloy specialist place and they priced me up a set of replica Monza's with tyres for £645.
So my question really is, should I continue the seemingly never ending hunt for a set of second hand genuine Monzas? Or bite the bullet and get the replicas. I'm scared of them buckling and/or being sh*t.
Thanks, any advice mucho appreciated

There's loads of sets on here in the for sale section for reasonable money. There's no way I'd spend that money on reps, that'll get you a recently refurbished set of OEM wheels on here

Yeah there are a couple of sets in there that look decent. Annoyingly though I can't post in there until I have 25 posts on the board in general it seems. Thanks for the advice

This chap here is selling some 17 inch ones which would do http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,44066.0.html I can't post in his thread though as I need more than 25 posts to post in the for sale section apparently. If someone could send him my way that would be very helpful

Also, if someone could explain white worming to me. If a wheel has it is it a goner if left un refurbished?

the 18" Monzas are diamond cut and the laquered, so white worm only applies to them.
whiteworm, as i understand it, is where there has been damage to the face of the wheel (stone chip, curb rash etc.) and water has gotten under the laquer. it is a pain as good quality refurbishing is difficult if you want an OEM finish. it can, however, be done and there is a lot of guidance on here.
alternatively, just get them painted silver and then you don't have to worry about whiteworm.
none of this applies to 17" wheels as they are just painted.
if you're after an OEM type wheel and are willing to spend in the region of £600 can i point you in the direction of W8 performance. he's a trader on here who's selling 18x8 ET44 BBS VZs, which are basically BBS CHs without "motorsport" written on them. they're very similar to the OEM Edition 30 wheel. i've got a set and i'm over the moon with them.

How much are you looking for for them? Will a refurb sort them out? Do they have tyres?
