Hey guys, just a quick question I was hoping you could help me with.
I had cruise control fitted by my local VW stealer on my Ed30. With the top switch set to 'ON' I get the green cruise control permanently on, regardless of if cruise control is engaged. The only way of switching the light off is to turn the top switch to 'OFF'.
My colleague has a Leon FR with cruise control and the green light is only on when he has cruise control engaged.
Which one is correct?!?
TIA,
Rob.

Green light should only be on once the CC is engaged.
-
Thanks Carl,
I had a sneaking suspicion that was the case. I've called the stealer back to request the issue be resolved :)

As above, flick into ON and then press and hold +/- button to set cruise - only then should the light come on.
What happens when you brake? Presumably still on instead of off as it should be?
-
When my car had a midline cluster, cruise control light was constantly on.
Once I upgraded to highline cluster the green light only comes on when cruise is set.
I would guess its due to firmware on the cluster.
Hope this helps.

I have midline and my cruise control light works normally (on when actually engaged, otherwise off).
-
it is down to the cluster, nothing to worry about
-
Thanks guys,
In answer to the question, the light stays on when I brake (fortunately, the cruise control does disengage though)
I will get VW on it tomorrow, see if they can get it resolved.
Thanks for the feedback, it's appreciated.

as long as it disengages when the brake pedal is used, it is ok.
my 970 cluster had the light on all the time, when i went to a 974 it only comes on when you press the set button and goes off as soon as the brake pedal is pressed

There is nothing wrong with it, my 04 golf is the same, yet my OHs 57 golf the green light is only on when cruise is being used, i was told it was age related, but as Ed has said cluster, my cluster is a 972 my OHs is a 974 my org cluster was a 951 so it could be cluster/age related
but there is nothing wrong mate :happy2:

Yep, my light is on all the time when the switch is on. My car has the Highline and came with cruise from the factory so I assume that is how it should work.
-
As Eddie and Phil says it's cluster dependant and I very much doubt there is anything VW will be able to do for you.
-
Cheers guys - I don't know which version my cluster is. The car has to go back in anyway as the iPod connection in the armrest isn't working so they're replacing it at a grand old cost of £395!

I have now retro fitted CC, in both my 2007 Golf GT and my 2006 vRS. They both have the same steer control module - which incidently according to Ross tech wiki will not work - but the Golf works the same as yours whereas the vRS light only comes on when you activate the CC. What's interesting, is they were coded differently?
When coding the engine, 'coding II-11' was use on the Golf, however this wasn't an option on the VRS, so thanks to Eddie we coded via 'coding-07'.........maybe you could try it that way?
-
The reason you coded them differently is that one ECU uses long coding and the other ECU uses the login 11463. The difference with yours, again is that the dash inserts will be different.
-
Both my 05 and 07 golf have behaved this way, I presumed it happened like this because they were retro fitted.
-
my green light is on if the cruise is in the "ON" position on the top rocker switch. And will stay on until i turn the rocker switch to off.

Both the GT and vRS are retrofit and behave differently. As Stu says, due to the different coding required on the ECU, that could be the reason??
@ Stu, is it possible to recode the Golf (which is done via 11463) using the long coding method as I would prefer the light to come on only when the CC is activated?!
-

I didn't say it was to do with the ECU coding at all, you did!! :signLOL:
I've said on several occasions it is due to variations in firmware on the dash insert (instrument cluster).
The ECU on the Golf TDi and the Octavia behave differently, you've coded them correctly.

I must have misinterpreted your meaning, sorry..... :ashamed:
Ah well I can live with the light, considering I have paid a grand total of 75 quid plus 8 cans on Guinness and now have cruise control in both cars!!
