Title: engine mounts - what type is best to get?
Post by: heavyd on March 17, 2012, 10:27:56 pm
I've found that I get a squeak when I pull away from standing still no idea why, got it in my head its the engine mounts, so was wondering which uprated ones are best to get :stupid:
thinking towards the THS ones so far

I had a full set of VF Engineering ones in my last vRS. They made it sound like a 6 Pot Turbo which was rather nice. Not too harsh either at motorway speeds.

Been happy with the BSH ones. Makes a rough / raw engine sound in the cabin but in a very nice way

I have BSH mounts. They keep everything tight under there. VF seems to be a bit softer from what others think, and Black Forrest Industries (BFI) has three stages of mounts so you have more options with them. Guys that chose BFI seem happy with BFI's stage 2 mounts.

Has to be the Vibratechnics mounts.  Easy to get and at a good price now that VWR are not exclusive on them.

.
Not everybody likes the sounds which having aftermerket engine mounts transfer to the cabin but I love them! Grrrrrrrrr !!.......

As said in john_o and my reviews, it's best to go for all three mounts.

The squeak described might be another bush such as on the front ARB, though that would tend to occur whenever the suspension flexes.

Where's the best place to get them Alex?
I take it all three are a must?

Apart from stopping engine hop, is there any other benefit from these mounts  :popcornsoda: do make your handling any better?

If you dont like the increased noise from the mounts then VWR recommend just fitting the lower dog bone mount and leaving the other two as standard.  Thats what I am going to do.

The noise is really addictive but you soon get used to it  :sad1:

Indeed they did, but at £160 per mount + VAT....... :surprised:

Nothing being said about them here, sorry.
The oem design concerns me as it appears to have weak spots in them. I leaned toward aftermarket as the design of them seems to be capable of evenly taking forces from all directions and are more solid throughout.

Look again at the broken oem version and imagine that even if made of stronger rubber as 034's is, there is still portions of the oem design that are rather thin;

Me  :happy2:

I'm a Vibratechnics dealer.  Pop me a pm and I can send you over some prices.

I would go for all three tbh.  I currently have the vt lower and the ths uppers, but I will be changing to the vt uppers as soon as I can.

I've got these too. Combined with WALK there is no wheel hop, and wheel spin is reduced. Well worth it IMO

....As with most OEM components, the engine mounts are a compromise - The GTI version of the Golf may be considered more 'sporty' by Volkswagen but they go for the mass market who prefer a quieter car with a relatively more comfy ride, whereas us 'enthusiast drivers' prefer some sound and firmer feedback etc.

Sounds like a interesting worthwhile mod, how does this increase the sound though? I mean it's just mounts and also what other benefits do they have?

I LIKE^the shirt.

I too luv my BSH as the vibe and sound is perfect ;]

To last post - the mounts are vibration and sound dampeners. You stiffen them and more of both comes through.

Think I might try to hitch a ride in TFSI Mikes so see how bad the extra noise is before I buy any ( any chance of a ride at the PDt RR day mike )
If it isnt too bad, I'll be in touch Alex :happy2:

I thought that was your exhaust mike. Forgot you had the mounts. Maybe that's why yours seems louder inside compared to the R
