Title: Expensive Valve Caps
Post by: Thor on March 18, 2012, 07:06:41 pm
I think these valve caps are a little on the expensive side.

Yeah, surely must be £12.99!

Even at £12.99 it's expensive seeing as they get nicked so often by scumbag kids.

Damn right, especially when you can order the genuine VW dust caps as fitted from factory for about 20p each! And they don't rust like the ones off eBay invariably do as they tend to be cheap coated brass. The set I've got have gone through 2 winters ridden with road salt and they still look like new. Just goes to show you don't have to pay through the nose for quality as long as you know where to look! I'll get the part number off ETKA for anyone interested. Worth getting 2 sets in case of thieving pikey scum as well.

My valve caps are awesome and I've had em on a few cars now. I love em, and they can be found for £12ish

I used to have them in black and they vibrated off  :sad1:

Either that or some idiot with too much time on his hands stole a couple  :fighting:

The Richbrook ones vibrated off???  :scared:

Maybe you didn't tighten properly?

I really can't see anyone nicking em

when you look at the other listings theyre actually quite cheap

i use spinners now cos i got sick of kids nicking them, on my old range rover i had them as well as tinted windows and once while sitting in tescos car park waiting on the mrs a little scrote cycled up and tried to take them. He practically passed out with shock when i opened the door to confront him

obviously only being a kid all i did was snap his picture on my phone and told him i was taking it to the police  i didnt but i think he learnt his lesson

It's just a tactic that some ebay sellers use, they run OOS temporarily so put the price up to stop people buying it, I'm sure price will go back to normal once he gets his stock in. If you look at the purchase history, looks like normal price is £2.99. They do this to avoid having to end the listing (sold out), and then having to pay to re-list the item again.

i cant say ive ever heard of that, for under a £5 value his listing fee's will be minimal anyway.

to me its just clever marketing, its got us talking about it  job done

For the sake of 10p he does that? profit margin must be very low  :P.

I think his main benefit is that it shows he has sold lots of them, as we know people are like sheep, if loads of other have bought then they must be good right!

Lol, it certainly has got us talking about it . I have seen it a fair few times on ebay though on a range of things, can't think why else they'd do it?

There is always some mug who will buy them tho, even at that price LMAO.

I once listed an RC car part at £56.95 which was a typo as it was supposed to list at £6.95, someone asked me if price was correct and before I could check/change it someone else bought it and paid for it!!, happy days  :happy2:

Guys, saw this thread and thought I've probably found the right audience for my sale.

I'm selling gold plated valve caps. A snip at £2.99, sorry £299!

.
I used to have those anti-theft ones but they were a pain to take on and off!

I now have bright green (matching SteveP's rims!) plastic caps. Plastics don't get stuck so easily.

OEM valve caps FTW!! I don't see the point in changing them at all.

i used to be very ocd about it, needing to have silver caps to match the alloys (silver valve stems too)

these days i'm perfectly happy with black plastic ones
