Title: P!ssed off!!!! DSG remap
Post by: Hurdy on May 07, 2009, 01:16:14 pm
Well I've phoned up my local GIAC dealer (10 mins away!) and did a general enquiry about the DSG remap. It appears that if you want it you have to have the same performance software as it has to be flashed together!

This means that for all you guys who are awaiting the Revo DSG remap who aren't running REVO performance software....you will have to either wait for Superchips, custom Code etc to bring out their DSG software or swap performance software anyway!

So, what I thought would be £450 could end up as £900, unless I wait for Custom Code to do their DSG remap, which maybe some time

Any thoughts on the GIAC software? :innocent:

John says I want a DSG Remap.

He sees Carbon Fibre, Sporty Rims, and a fully loaded Edition 30 mixed with a petrol head.

John awaits in anticipation.

He tries to rip John he off and take John for a joyride.

^^^^

By the sounds of it at least.... But Im narrow minded so I might be overreading....lol

Good Luck Hurdy!  :happy2:

Hmmm, maybe the sales guy has it wrong then.  I certainly hope so. :jumping:

Poking about a bit the DSG software should be done through the Mechatronics ECU rather than the Engine ECU and so they shouldn't really have to be linked!

Was your quote £399 inc VAT or plus VAT?

LOL

He hasn't seen my car yet, but I know what you mean. That is why I've posted here to see if I could go in armed with different info. Statller have a very good reputation as they are a Porsche and VAG specialist, with an ED30 DSG as a demo car, so I'd hope they weren't trying to pull a fast one. To be frank the guy is phoning me back to confirm whether or not you can map the DSG separately, fingers crossed! :happy2:

£399 was with VAT I think...

this link is a chap in the states with revo stage 2 and recently installed giac dsg map :

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=4298135

most giac dealers in the UK seem pretty useless apart from Star and Regal, spoke to one based in South London VW Enterprise who was as much use as a chocolate fireguard and another one in Sussex who directed me to the GIAC website..

best of speaking to regal who are the main GIAC dealers and supply everyone else in the country.

Just got off the phone with Regal and they have confirmed that the DSG software can be used in conjunction with any engine software :jumping: :jumping: :jumping: :jumping:

Also confirmed that the software uprates the DSG to operate up to 500nm of torque and redlines at 7200rpm ...nyom nyom

Well, mine is already putting 513nm through it

But surely there must be a limit to what a gearbox designed for a 250bhp golf can handle?

Thats putting a golf gearbox into my dads Porsche!!

Does anyone actually know what the maximum power and torque is that the DSG can handle?

Mike

513nm :innocent: :signLOL:

Seriously though, the DSG would handle more with the right programming and clutchpack. HPA say that if you use their clutchpack and DSG software it is okay to run the R32 twin turbo through it and that has over 600bhp and 650nm :jumping:

I was hoping Custom Code would have theirs done, but it looks like it has been placed on the back burner for a while. I'm an impatient SOB and so thought I'd look at the GIAC one. The only thing that makes me nervous now is that they inadvertantly screw up my Custom Code remap when I go to have it done.

LOL, probably the only way I will get into the 12.s at the pod.

I had a brief encounter with thinking about opting for a TT-RS, but came to my senses (plus there is no DSG option!), so I'm going to continue modding again and will be getting some lovely extra goodies over the next few months  :innocent:
