Right - been thinking of getting the right set up for my baby for a wee while now and i think its time I look into this seriously.
Head unit - I'm keepng the RNS510 as it is (it really is a quality headunit) and will not be switching to an aftermarket, which I have done on all my previous rides.
Internal speakers/tweeters - I have always been a fan of directed type R because of the punch you get but wondering what else is a good look? have heard people talking about "Rockford Fosgate" being good, but has anyone used this brand before?
Amps - Directed Audio was my pride and joy rolling out with a 1200D, but as you amp heads know, Directed has been replaced by Orion which iirc is the same company so quality shouldn't be affected. HOWEVER, what other options do i have?
Capacitor - not necessary.
Oh and best wiring? i have no clue on this TBH!!!
so really after info on all except for the headunit.

I used to ignore Rockford Fosgate when I was younger as they were quite new to the "Scene" and all the american waffle put me off plus I did not like the chunky styling, preferred something more low key, used to swear by Pioneer speakers as personally preferred the sound although dynaudio do some good ones too.
Regards Amps I liked the (Back then) high end Amps made my Genesis (british made), gave amazing quality and sound and would recommend them back then.
Most Oxy free wiring sold by Retailers is likely made in the same 3 factories anyway  so that should not be an issue to find.
-
did you ever bother with sound proofing?

did you ever bother with sound proofing?
Yes I did the front and rear doors and boot with Dynamat (I thinks thats what it was called, it was nigh on 17 yewars back now lol), never bothered with the floorpan :happy2:
-
oxy free wiring - what sort of price should i be looking at.
-
Pop to halfords as they have various gauges of all wires to suit your budget on the Walls in reels.
-
Make sure you get copper cable.
as coppers gone so expensive i hear that alot of cable is now aluminium with a copper coating, but its no where near as good.
-
Wouldn ignore halfrauds you can get it much cheaper looking on either ebay (UK, ignore the crap from china) or amazon, make sure its 100% copper Oxy free and you should be ok.
-
so there is not actual brand to look for in terms of wiring?
-
some are better than others, but i havent seen any reviews comparing them recently. however, i'd keep half an eye on the tickness of the plastic coating, it may say 4 guage, but if the coating looks a bit thick, compare it to another 4 guage cable
proper car audio stuff is nice and flexible, if you wanna save money, buy some welding cable, still copper, does the same job but not as fancy/flexible/whatever
-
what about door speakers? would you say stick with alpine and pioneer?
-
no idea to be honest, depends on what you wanna spend, what you listen to, how your using them (powered of head unit or amp) all sorts.
the top line pioneer stuff (ODR costing thousands) is amazing, the cheaper stuff, i dunno.
-
As Mr P said keep an eye out for wire with the letters cca on it as that's copper clad aluminum and more resistive than copper. Had this come into work before. Also as he said keep an eye on cross sectional area v wire coating. Rebranded China makes often have little copper cross sectional area.

have a look at this thread http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,10352.15.html (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,10352.15.html) this guy added a sub and amp to his rns-510 straight forward really
mine was easier due to having a Chinese knock off unit that looks like oem so had all the cables ready for sub and amp :happy2:
-
I currently have a mfd2 - is it worth getting a RNS510 if I intend to uprate the speakers. Is there any difference in sound quality between these two units

Easy fella...
What kind of system are ya looking for?
SPL or SQ orientated? Basically one where ppl will hear you miles away or more Sound quality orientated?
Door components - as mentioned before - Hertz ESK165's, Focal's, Rainbows... Ive had all three in mine and to be honest they're all very Good!
Currently rocking 2 sets of 3ways in each door - Focal A3's
Subs - again it depends on what kind of system you're looking for? Im running a SPL system so rock Orion HCCA's but JL are brilliant all rounders!! Will be looking to get 2 x 13" W6 in a few weeks...
As for wiring.. Audison!! (Connection by Audison) :happy2: Autoleads, and Stinger also do fairly good Wiring kits.. would refrain from using fli or boss audio tho
Might also be worth pointing out that Car Audio Security will be having their annual sale at the end of this month!! Major discounts across all brands!
