Title: Black smoke from ED30?
Post by: Gladiator on March 21, 2012, 11:59:42 am
Hi

I've started to notice a cloud of dark smoke coming out of my exhaust?

I park on a slight incline on a gravel drive and when reversing I have to give a few revs to get her to start moving with the DSG box, that's when I notice the black smoke from the rear?

It seems to only do this when cold in the morning and car runs perfectly well.

I've been doing a few short trips recently so do you think this is normal and just needs a good run to clear and given the chilli mornings and revs required to move the old girl up the incline?  What else should I be concerned with if anything?

I'm due A service next month so can it checked then if required.

Thanks for any help/advice

I think (correct me if I am wrong) black smoke is ok, just unburnt fuel passing through, its blue smoke to be wary of!.

I used to get the issue when reversing out of my parking spot which was on a forward slope... I've not noticed it since moving house. :-S

Probably just soot moving backwards due to incline in the back box where it collects, then puffing out when revving it...

Is your air filter due cleaning / replacing?

Yep, due next service in 1000 miles....oil, air filter, plugs etc, hopefully that may help?

Fundamentally a blocked filter could cause overfueling & black smoke.  Although sensors should be working out the correct fuel injection. Definately worth a good service though  :happy2:
