well I was expecting it to fail and yes it did.. after 6 years of not even one advisory it failed on Offside front constant velocity joint gaiter
and the advisory was the nearside inner front constant velocity joint gaiter
how much do you think labour should be to fit 1 or both of these cv gaitor things? also does it require taking off the brakes because if it does I might
aswell sneak in some new pads to get done for free.. thankss :happy2:
also people always say buy from TPS but isnt it just for traders etc , do they serve the average person?

Easy fix for any garage. If a garage wanted to charge more than an hour's labour, I'd be surprised.
How old is your car? A friend's 2005 GTI had a weird, and frankly stupid, hard plastic style gaitor from the factory (on which he's suffered a couple of failures), whereas all the newer cars I've seen have a more traditional rubber gaitor (which seem to go for ever on most cars).

I paid the skoda dealer about £130 to supply and fit one on my octavia. Or may have been £160?

is that just one side? because one failed and one was advisory, but I want both doing

Mine needed doing for the MOT last year , at Western VW edinburgh , I'll run up and get the invoice... Right , it was £146 inc vat , which isnt bad I suppose since thats all it needed , but when you consider the CV Joint boot is worth £17 it makes me wish I was a mechanic!

That was the price for one side only , the other side was ok , my only advisory was wiper blades.

for the price you paid Im getting both done :scared: do you know if you have to take off the wheels or brakes to do this job?

No idea sorry , Im not mechanically capable so that why I have to pay someone else to do it! I dropped the car off a Western VW and they took me into Edinburgh and I spent that day wandering the streets like a tourist while they done the work! :grin:

I would have thought they would need to take the brakes off to do this job mate. There fairly easy to do if you got the right tools, if not, best left to some one who knows what there doing. :happy2:

oh im not attempting to do this myself.. im just asking if you need to take the brakes off as my specialist charges £40 to change pads/discs etc so might aswell tell em to change the brakes for free labour :laugh:?
