Hi chaps, looking at getting an i pad for my wifes birthday, only will have about £400 to spend, so as we have a baby on the way am tempted to get a reconditioned 2 gen from Apple with 64 gb memory so can keep loads of photos of baby etc but is the camera on the 3rd gen significantly better which means should just plump for a 16gb 3rd gen?
Help....

Short answer yes.
Long answer, get the iPad 2 64GB, take the pics with your digital camera, buy the iPad camera connection kit and then you can load the pictures on to the iPad via the SD/XD etc card. You will get infinitely better pictures from a digital camera than the iPad no matter which one it is unless your digital camera is from 2003
:happy2:

I have the Digital Camera Connection Kit and it's pretty good.

as above, use a digital camera for pictures

cool, ok have a panasonic digital camera, and so when dispalying said pictures may as well look on better screen ie 3rd gen?
plus, is 16gb not sufficient for just pictures ie no films or videos?

If you use iCloud then your pictures will be in the cloud so Storage becomes less of an issue. Why not look at your current collection, see how big it is an assess how many you'd want on the iPad.

As Stu says use iCloud.
However as an idea i have over 4.5k photos on mine which takes up about 7gb of space.
Just remember though a 16Gb iPad will give you around 14gb of useable space

not massively into taking pictures myself (hence no build thread for my car yet lol) but my wife will be i think once little one is here, so hard to guess how much space will be needed but have a 1 terobyte (sp?) external hardrive with only music on at mo..

Pics take up hardly any storage on I pad

i have both, have to say i prefer the 2, pics do look better on 3rd gen though, 2 is much lighter and the camera is still rubbish on the 3
