Title: Aaaaaargh! There's been a run on V Power!
Post by: Mk5 GTian on March 29, 2012, 06:57:20 am

I've just had to polute my lovely Golf with Total Excellium 97, as every petrolhead in Guildford has filled up with V Power  :sad1:

Gutted!

I would have used 95 and chucked a load of octane booster in first

Yup, thats what i did earlier. Although the octane booster wasnt exactly cheap. The only petrol available here seemed to be regular unleaded, so i had no choice as was running on empty. Stopped by Halfords on the way back from the station for a couple of bottles of octane booster.

Expect your car to devalue by 50%...AT LEAST  :sad1:

Nothing wrong with using a bit of 95/97/98. I always find the car runs better after having used a tank of non-V Power and then filling up with VPower.

Yep there was no petrol at my local Shell lunchtime Thurs. At that point they had diesel for sale.

So as my car needed fuel, had to have a drop of Tesco Momentum. The old boy at the pump next to me queued to then put £12.50 into his little Nissan!!!
Think he was making sure he had enough to get his pension...

The country has gone fuel mad..

V-power, not used that in a long time. How much is it now?

Thats funny. I drove past my local Station and it was all old boys filling up their little Hyundai's 'just in case'!

My Grandad does it. He has nowhere to go really as he just sits in his chair!

Hmm...There seems to be quite a few of us experiencing no V Power but normal is available. Are we sure it's not forum members causing the shortage?  :signLOL:

Mines mapped on revo stage 1 to run on 98 and above fuel. What will happen on 95 fuel?

You will get less power.

If you have an SPS Switch i would put it on the default revo performance setting (B6 T2 F9) so that you don't get any timing pull issues. But other than that it will be fine. :happy2:

The ECU will retard the timing so it will make a bit less power.... Other than that, not much.

Wasn't there a comparison done between V-Power, Momentum 99 and BP 97 and didn't V-Power come last, with BP 2nd? Think the tests included fuel economy and a dyno run

I reckon they're stocking up on the regular stuff because thst's what most people will buy.

Also considering the fuel economy of the kind of cars that demand V-Power it's bound to run out sooner.

So it isn't going to misfire or anything then?

The engine will just pull timing if its that effected using 95 fuel.

Just try not to come on boost.

Just looking up which report on super fuels 1.4 tsi got 5% power increase on v plus and my standard gti dyno run pulled 193 bhp running on 95 normal juice so I think standard cars have nothing to worry about. I guess the margins on tunes are tighter though.

Why - what do you think is going to happen?

Its a golf, not a fighter jet.  Putting 95 RON in will do f'all to it  :stupid:

Engine catastrophe,

But serious note, Datalogs from my car with 97 and 99ron, the difference was dramatic, timing was being pulled all across the cylinders, where 99ron it reduced it to safe levels.

Would you be on WOT @ 95 ron fuel with  a 99ron map ? Good luck.

It was done some time ago by Thorney Motorsport and/or EVO Magazine.

I think in EVO V-Power won but for Thorney Tesco Finest won. BP or 95 unleaded was always last.

The ECU will retard timing to safe levels, its perfectly fine to run a mapped car on 95, but you won't be getting the best performance out of it.

Erm no!!

You have a lot of sustained timing pull over 5 on cylinder 1&4 for nearly the entire rev range. That's not good!
Title: Re: Aaaaaargh! There's been a run on V Power!
Post by: ktlstar on March 30, 2012, 11:26:19 pm
^ Exactly. My car is mapped for 99 ron and not 97 ron. Just shows you the timing are being pulled for putting the wrong grade of fuel in.

Happy  :driver:

I was referring to someone with a stage 1 (read back the thread) map not a stage 2+ balls out map.

If he has to put in a tank of 95 then its not gonna wreck his engine.

Ive put in 95 before on my stage 1 ed30.. and its still going strong today (i use 99ron 99% of the time)

You highlighted my comment Rich, so i assumed you was referring to my comment i.e stage2+.

I think we need a data log 95 97 99ron for stage1 revo map :)
