Well, I've had the E30 for almost three months now and whilst I am absolutely loving it, I've started on the slippery slope and have booked the car into R-Tech for the end of April. They come highly recommended on here so I can't wait. It's in for stage 1 remap, DSG map, pre-cat removal and a set of Eibach Sportlines fitted! :happy2: I'm blaming Greeners, Markymark and Deako for the 'inspiration' :drinking:
From what you guys have said on here, the difference should be quite noticeable! Anyone else running stage 1 on Eibach Sportlines? Would love to hear your thoughts?
Also, I'm assured removal of the pre-cat will not affect my car passing MOTs - that right?
-
the pre cat is for German requirements, not UK ones. shouldn't have any problems at all :happy2:
-
My car passed the mot with the pre cat removed. Or you can have my old downpipe with the pre cat already removed for a small donation. It is the same downpipe as fitted to the ed30 and recently passed an mot with it fitted. I now have my BCS exhaust fitted so I have no need for my oe dp.
-
 Thanks guys, really appreciate the replies, that puts my mind at rest on the pre-cat! Thanks for the kind offer 56OctyVRS but I think R-Tech have the pre-cat removal covered so hopefully I'll good!
Looking forward to being lower and stage 1 :jumpmove:
-
Glad to hear we could be of help to you Dom
If I can't keep hold of my wallet then why should you be any different!!
Having the remap will put the biggest smile on your face, trust me! :driver:
-
And a big dent in your wallet fuel wise. :signLOL:

:happy2: to say I'm a little excited is an understatement! I've put in some serious web time on mods since perving your car last Sunday! You've definitely started something! I'm writing this with another safari tab open trying to find maniacs dsg paddle extensions for a reasonable price!
And a big dent in your wallet fuel wise. :signLOL:
Luckily it's not my commuting daily driver then... Oh wait, it is :stupid: :signLOL:

I see a build thread starting here

:signLOL: :signLOL: I'm hoping it won't warrant that but I'll keep you posted! :happy2:

I foresee some BIG smiles mate :happy2:
You will be real happy with the performance mate!
And lowering the car on Eibachs or H&R's looks just awesome!
When I picked my car up after having the springs fitted, I was stunned by how much difference a little lowering made
-
:jumpmove: Quite excited tbh! Agreed on the need for the Mk5 to be a little lower (especially noticeable on the rear arches)! Seem to be wishing the month by waiting for the remap/lowering!
In terms of suspension, is your car just running upgraded springs (H&R/Eibachs) Monte? Looks amazing
-
Thanks mate, yeah just H&R springs on mine :happy2:
-
There are some h&r's in the for sale section at a fantastic price. Brand new as well. If hadn't already got them myself i would have had his arm off. £220 new :happy2:
-
Cheers Gazon69, will take a look.... had my heart set on Eibachs (Not sure why, no rational reason :ashamed:) - is drop the same on an Edition 30 for the H&Rs and Eibachs?
-
Another newbie-type question (apologies) but has anyone had the pre-cat removed from a standard E30 exhaust and had any issues? Only I'm going stage 1 at the end of the month and have heard from a mate that once you get near (or above 300bhp) by removing the pre-cat, the standard exhaust is so restrictive that all you do is create a whole load of heat that the exhaust struggles to get rid off - and it can feed back up to the turbo?!?! Does this sound right? Again, apologies for my distinct lack of tuning knowledge before I get shot down in flames from a great height...
-
If you remove the pre cat you will get rid of the heat a bit quicker as the exhaust gases wont be hitting a big wall of cat material.
-
the slippery slope on this forum are teflon lined

Thanks. So really there shouldn't be any issues then? Any downsides to removing it?

Indeed!

None that i experienced :happy2:

One more question guys... Apologies in advance as it's about intakes and I know there have been soooooo many threads on this (and some excellent reviews which I've read).
As it says at the start of this thread I'm booked in to go stage 1 (engine and dsg) and have been considering also getting an induction kit fitted at the same time. If I do, it's between the Twintake and the ITG Maxogen. Car has standard E30 exhaust.
Does anyone on here have either of these running a similar set-up that could tell me how noisy each is under normal driving conditions (I.e. in D pottering around town or cruising down the motorway at 80-ish)? I've watched YouTube and they both sound awesome under a healthy bit of throttle (which I want), but I really need the car to not sound like an angry beast when out for a relaxing day with the wife or driving work colleagues.
Can anyone help? Thanks in advance :happy2:

how much,,id be interested!

Ok, steering towards the ITG Maxogen. Anyone got one that could let me know how noisy it is under normal driving and motorway cruising? :popcornsoda:

I'm not sure they sell the Maxogen anymore? I think they now come the same as Marks with the enclosed filter! :happy2:
-
If you go with the Maxogen I think this will be too noisy from what you seem to want. I think either one like mine or the twin take would be the best way for you to go. My mate fitted a maxogen to his Rocco R and it's too noisy for him as his everyday car but he was too impatient to wait for one like mine.

Have you seen my thread on pre-cat removal? Search for "pre cat removed"

I've recently had a stage 1,remap and Sportlines fitted recently  two weeks Ive had it done, and it's transformed the car to be honest. I thought it was great as standard but that drop with the sportlines makes it sit perfect and it seems like I can throw it into corners more too. As for the Stage 1, it was quick before but it just blows me away now. It was a P-Torque remap and its running at 300 bhp, now it pulls in every gear. hard! only think is that there is a bit of wheelspin with the weather like it is today but be a bit sensible in the wet and its fine. I've also got a ITG Maxogen fitted, loud when you want it to be,and does sound aboit like darth vader, but can also be quiet at motorway crusing speeds. but the turbo flutter when you accelerate wow

I did have a good look around for the enclosed version like Mark's as that would be my preference :happy2:

Hear what you're saying on the Maxogen, I've mailed ITG to see if the latest version is similar to yours - it certainly looks that way from their website but I'm struggling to find stockists who show that kit - will let you know how I get on as I'm not sure I can justify the VW Racing version...
Cheers GrayMk5GTI for highlighting your thread on pre-cat removal - made for interesting reading and I'm definitely convinced by getting it done!
Jay_BCFC - you're definitely adding my my excitement in getting the work done at R-Tech, sounds like it's going to be a different beast all together! Can't wait :jumpmove:
-
 now. ITG said they only do the current non-enclosed Maxogen for the K04, the enclosed version for the Mk6 GTi doesn't fit and if I want enclosed (like Markymark's), they recommend VW Racing... That's quite strong money though...
Concerned Maxgen might be too noisy under normal driving (would love the noise under 'spirited' driving though) and although I may get shot down for this, I've heard the Twintake is better on K03 than K04... Guess it's back to the search function for other options.... Unless anyone has any advice, criteria are:
Under £350ish (if possible)
Some extra horses from better breathing to accommpany Stage 1 remap
Happy with some increase in noise generally across the board
Actively seeking noise under hard accelleration
Would prefer it not to sound like a raving lunatic under normal driving (i.e. around town and motorway cruising)
Thoughts? Thanks in advance... :notworthy:
-
^ anyone?
-
So have you had the remap done? How did it go?
-
Hey driver rider, since this thread I've had the work done and couldn't be happier with the car. It's awesome.
Had engine/DSG maps at R-tech, along with pre-cat removal and it's completely transformed the car. Feels factory in delivery but when you push it, it's relentless.
Then had Eibach sportlines and superpro anti lift bushes fitted (along with four wheel alignment) at Stealth Racing. Wow. Handling now matches power and overall I'm so pleased with it.
You thinking of getting yours done?

Im thinking of getting it done. Though right now I'm a little cheesed of the car has xenons but doesn't seem to have the headlight washers....This too me means that the headlights were retrofitted...as I understand that call factory fitted xenon cars have headlight washers. I'll look into this.
Yes I'm thinking of getting mine done. Did you drive up to the headquarters of R-tech to get it done? May I ask why you got the DSG mapped as well. What made you perform the four wheel alignment. Finally how do the bushes make a change to the car? Im a bit scared of removing the cat....
-
Hey mate, I see you've got a thread going on your zenons, was going to suggest asking on here as there's plenty of people that will know 100% how to tell if they're retrofitted. As for my map, I drove to R-Tech headquarters in Hinckley, the guys are great and Nick really knows his stuff. He's on here as R-Tech Nic if you have any technical questions on maps etc.
Had the DSG mapped as it raised the torque limiters up from 350Nm as otherwise after the engine remap, the box restricts the torque at that level. Post maps, my peak torque is around 410Nm so it makes a big difference. I didn't get the cat removed as its definitely needed for MOT, I had the pre-cat removed which I understand is just for German regs and not needed here in the UK. It helps to make the standard exhaust more free-flowing.
Had the four wheel alignment done after getting the lowering springs fitted to check all was in order. Especially as I'd just had four new Pirelli tyres fitted. SuperPro anti lift bushes help reduce lift under acceleration and dive under braking, which along with the lowering springs help keep the car more stable overall and flatter in the corners. Wasn't planning on getting them done straight away but my console bushes were cracked and the quote from VW dealer to replace them was  The SuperPro's replace them and are much stiffer than the standard rubber ones. Really tightens up the feel, would recommend.
Do you have an Ed30? Would really recommend mapping, it transforms the car completely. Still feels factory in terms of delivery and in D it's still a great cruiser, but in manual mode or S when you're heavier with the right foot, it's relentless. Lovely!
Hope you get to the bottom of the zenons, there's plenty of knowledgeable peeps on here that I'm sure will help. It's a great site.

Thanks, Ive had some good responses regarding the xenos. Now you've reminded me I'm going to ask another question!
I'll copy your lead and drive down there as its an excuse to go on a mini road trip! I'll send Nick a message v soon! The gains you have sound phenomanal. I mean the car's already quick to me (I came from a polo). I'll speak to Nick about the precat I'm a little bit nervous about it and also I'm thinking of putting an exhaust on it!
I'll look into the four wheel alignment think it'll be something I'll get done once the four new tyres are all fitted. Are there any downsides to fitting bushes. I'll google the company in a moment....sounds like the bushes make a BIG difference.
I don't have an eddie got tired of waiting and seeing GTI's on here made me get impatient! I'm definitely going to get it mapped! I just don't know when I should do it. I want to get the car serviced and have the DV and PC valves checked. I also want to change the fuel filter. Ill have a word with Nick to see if these are things that he would do.
Thanks for taking the time to give me such a helpful reply. Im getting excited for mods! and I thought I'd be keeping it standard!
I hope to get the xenons sorted as well. I'll keep you posted I may start a thread soon!
Keep us posted how you get on!

Hi, Do you still have your DP without pre-cat available? I'd be interested if so, cheers.

Sorry mate I sold it a while ago.
