Title: RCD510 in 05 GTI
Post by: craig_t on March 31, 2012, 02:51:31 pm
Just fitted a RCD510 into my 05 gti. Now I know that this unit can give battery drain issues if the CAN isn't the right one. Does anyone know how long it will take to drain the battery as I'm doing this as a test to see if it drains or not.

Are we talking a few hours? Overnight? Days?

I recently had an RNS510 fitted into my 06 GTI and had the CAN changed over. I was told when I enquired bout the drain its likely to be overnight so you should know tomorrow... I kept pulling the fuse out till I got my CAN done to save the battery, just meant it took afew mins for the GPS to locate but otherwise was a good temp measure.

Ah well my battery did go flat :(

Looks like I'm going to have to get a new CAN. Will it be ok to put my old rcd300 back in and still replace my CAN. Will this affect my old unit?

Also is there anyone in the Bedfordshire area that could help me fit and programe the new CAN.

Cheers
Craig

Because of the battery drain I have removed the rcd510 and put in the old rcd300. But when I started the car up again I now have the light on the dash below and can't turn the traction control off.

Does anyone now what iv done and how I can sort this?

Its approx 12 hrs for it too drain your your battery and as previously said take it for a drive or charge the battery and once you start it up again these warning lights should go out  :happy2:
