Title: Pro Alloy Intercooler for 2.0T
Post by: djhorace on April 02, 2012, 07:46:23 pm
Anyone had one/used one and if so, how would you rate it?

Having spoken to a few tuning houses/specialists, it is rated over the likes of the THS. 10% more volume than an S3 core but less tanks and more core.

Ta,

Al

Heard it's the same size but a tiny bit lighter than the THS. The fact it's the same price would make me go for the Pro Alloy

Any idea on ability to cool things down, pressure loss/drop etc?

Trying to see how much of a benefit it would be over the likes of an OEM S3 intercooler.

Al

Cant comment for this specific intercooler, but all there components are top notch and expertly engineered. They are highly regarded in the Lotus world.  :happy2:

Yeah I heard that too, and also that they are highly regarded in the Mk2 Focus RS world.

It is a bit of a "risk" buying one over the likes of a THS, but I may be willing to take that risk

I wouldnt say risk over THS. Personally i would chose pro alloy over THS.

For the 1.8t VAG engine Pro Alloy made a cracking peice of kit for most of the variants. As mentioned by yourself for both Rs's mk1 & 2 they make one of the better kits.
For same price i would go Pro Alloy personally.  :happy2:

The THS looks good, performs well but tbh THS arent exactly a massive intercooler company.  They dont offer a huge amount of intercoolers as such have a huge amount of experience.  They also have a go at engine mounts, exhausts etc.  Do they develop their own cores in house, or are they bought in?  Alot of companies dont make their own.

Yet Pro alloy are a a much larger producer of intercoolers on a whole variety of cars and pretty much only deal with alloy radiators and intercoolers.  All cores etc developed in house.

When Pace products fitted my intercooler/rad kit they said they had just developed their intercooler kit for the Mk5 and S3.  Might be another option to consider.  Again another company who develop every big in house.

Id be looking at pro alloy in your shoes tbh,

My mates 300+bhp AX runs a Pro Alloy intercooler/radiator set up and it's gorgeous... intake temps are ultra low...
