Title: Looking for V-power????
Post by: Jussa on April 03, 2012, 10:19:02 pm
My closest Shell station in Crystal Palace hasn't had any V-power since last week Thursday, and I'm now starting to panic!!  :fighting:
Can anybody in South East London advise if they know of a Shell garage that has some??  :scared:

Have you looked on the Shell website and rung all the nearby Shell stations to see if they have any?

I had to do this to get my supply last week.

I reckon I will have to give that a go tomorrow
Did u have to travel far to get some?
I can probably get hold of some Tesco 99 but have never had it in my car, and not sure on it.

My local has been out for over a week. I'm running on Tesco Finest.  :sad1:

Hey Hedge, how does it feel/compare to Tesco's finest??

In the end I had to travel all of 2 miles from home to a Shell station I had never been to before. Surprisingly there were no queues in spite of all the other Shell stations running dry at the time.

It's ok mate. Meets the octane requirement and so far so good.

I found Tesco Momentum99 makes my tick over and idle smoother.  Suffers no timing pull or loss of power with momentum either.  So considering the map was done with VPower in, it cant be that bad

The Tesco 99 fuel again outperformed V Power in all the tests but the differences between the two fuels were marginal and we doubt most people would tell the difference in their cars on a day to day basis. However the Tesco fuel was the most consistent.

:signLOL: well at least u found a new station.  My mate that lives on the South Coast says they have no issues at all, it seems that all the London lunatics cleared al the V-power out, or Shell are not slicing London 1st  :sad1:
I'm going to try and call a few stations tomorrow.

Very interesting, think I will have to try the Tesco
Never seen this 102 octane BP, anybody ever used it, and where did they get it?
Title: Re: Looking for V-power????
Post by: sub39h on April 03, 2012, 10:49:27 pm
it's an old article. BP have since stopped selling 102 in this country. was only available at a handful of petrol stations nationwide anyway, often near tracks that offered track days.

I was getting panicky the other day as i dont have differewnt octane maps on my cruise stalk, just different test files that i have been using.  I refused to queue for fuel and thought id leave it another day.  Ended up on fumes trying to find some 99ron,

Ref that thorneyt thread, its an interesting read, but also bear in mind they were sponsored by tesco 99 fuels

I asked R-Tech when I had mine mapped to 99RON if it would do any harm to run it on lower octane (for a quick splash n dash if no 99RON available) and they said it would be fine PROVIDING I don't go thrashing it.

Under low load your not getting much (or any) of the benefits of the higher octane.

Just used this site to check for all the Shell stations where I work and near my home.  Called about 20 stations, and nobody had any V-power and weren't sure when they were going to get a delivery either.

I then took the executive decision of calling Shell UK.  I was on hold for about 15 minutes when a woman answered the phone - she proceeded to tell me that they were aware of the issue, and senior management within Shell had been informed,  but she still couldn't tell me when the stations were going to get deliveries   :stupid:

I guess it's time to pay tesco a visit  :sad1:

Spoke to the guy behind the counter when I filled up with normal shell  on Saturday and he said at the time shell did not see vpower as a necessity and could be up to 2 weeks before it's back to normal as it was taking space up on tankers trying to get stations refilled with normal juice. But as I say this guy was behind the counter working the till, no disrespect to the lad

I tried 3 shell garages today, no v power, they said they had no idea when it was coming back in either :scared:
Might have to make a long trek to tesco at this rate

....I was told exactly the same, 2 weeks, on Wednesday but by the Shell station Manageress. Obviously Shell have been giving this info to all their stations.

Tesco are gonna see a rise in sales of their 99 RON as long as they can supply it.

Do all Tesco stations have the 99 option?

My Clutter seems to run a whole load better on the Tesco 99 RON versus the V-Power.  Idles smoother, well as smooth as a badly packed Kitbag.

Just an observation.

The V-Power situation could last as long as May, I was informed yesterday.

I usually use V Power bacause I have a (probably irrational) phobia about using Supermarket fuel , but Ive used Momentum99 a few times and I can feel that the engine runs a little smoother and I get a little more MPG , but it doesnt feel as quick as when its on V Power , if that makes sense.

I only ever use Tesco 99 as I can't get V Power near me.  My two local Tesco's have not had any both times I've been in the last week, and neither has the Tesco near work.  So I've been running on 95 since the petrol crisis, only putting in small amounts at a time in the hope that the next time I visit Tesco they will have restocked their 99 but so far I've had no luck.  There is a third local store I could try and I will be ringing all three on Tuesday to see if they have any as I'm running low and need to fill up for my next lot of shifts.

The petrol crisis has really peed me off.  I filled up before it all started because I needed to, it didn't last me long and by the time I needed petrol again the panic buying was in full swing.  I genuinely needed some but couldn't get any (99 anyway, meaning I had to put 95 in) and have not been able to get any since.  Those of us that genuinely do a lot of miles and fill up frequently have been punished by all the people that do minimal mileage but decided to fill up anyway "just in case". GRRRRR :fighting:

Great I'll just travel the 40 odd miles to get some  :chicken:

Saying that I fly from Stansted on 18th April so I can do it then as I doubt the Vpower will be back by then.  Where about near Stansted, what junction etc?  :popcornsoda:
