Title: S3 intercooler on GTi
Post by: Jussa on April 05, 2012, 09:22:54 pm
Guys,
I'm selling the above in the 'for sale' section but have been asked if this is a straight fit with all the original bits when removed from my S3.
Can anyone advise??  :popcornsoda:

It should be a straight fit with the hoses on the early model cars. Get the buyer to get the correct bolts for securing it, if your IC has metal end tanks.

My IC is from a 2010 model S3, so I think it may have the other ends, is that an issue?

Never actually seen one with plastic end tanks but, if plastic, the screws used to fasten the standard gti IC should work. The S3 IC with metal end tanks needs different bolts to the ones that fastened the gti because the gti one has plastic end tanks.

Maybe someone with etka could help out to see if the bolt part numbers are the same...

No it is not a straight fit. The mounting of if is but the hoses which go into the intercooler on the gti clip in with the aluminium collars. On the s3 cooler the hoses go over the top and are fixed in place by jubilee clips. You have to carefully cut away the collars taking care not to damage the hoses then just slide over the s3 cooler as mentioned. Hope this makes sense.  :happy2:

I would have assumed that he'd be selling the S3 hoses with the IC since he'll not need them for his new IC hence my comment earlier on the year of gti this will be transplanted too..

So as long as he provides the pipes that came off his intercooler no modification should be required?
