My friend has a mk4 150 pd gti and is looking at getting one of these, and as asked me if I know anything about them. Of which I don't, so thought I would ask you guys.

Tuning boxes dont have the best reputation, it looks ok but you can tell the tune will be a generic file and not as strong as if he had a map done as the torque after remapped is only 285ftlbs and i know these can go upto 320-330ftlbs,
nick at rtech is very good at getting really progressive maps with good peak figures on these, he would be better off waiting or send his ecu off to a company and it would be the same price

Wont even be a generic file, tuning boxes are nothing but resistors that add fuel pressure. No real tuning going on. You can get similar gains using resistors from maplin for 3pence.

....That doesn't surprise me unfortunately. I didn't want to post to warn the OP without knowing the reasons why they are best avoided. There's all sorts of absolute crap out there on fleeBay which promise power hikes but aren't necessarily good for your car.
I know someone who got a box which fits before the MAF and fools the ECU into thinking there's an aftermarket efficient air intake installed! He's a young kid and wouldn't take my advice not to fit it.

Personally I wouldnt bother,go to a well known tuner-mapper...

That's more or less what he said, although more politely. He said he added 10 bhp but how he knew without going on a rolling road I didn't bother to ask! The car is a 'standard' Seat Leon with broad white stripes on the bonnet like the American muscle cars. He's a bit of a chavvy youth who tends to ignore 30 mph zones and I happen to know is known to the local Police. I don't like to judge people by appearances but sometimes there's no denying it.
