what will happen if the car is driven with a split in the turbo hose ?
-
All it will do is make it run very rough with hardly any go. Id not chance it as it may rip totally and you get stranded somewhere. Which one is damaged?
-
.
Rob, is it a GTI or a 172 Cup?
I ask because the GTI Mk4's were prone to the OEM turbo hoses splitting (I'm told), especially on a remapped modified car. Hence why I swopped all mine out for SAMCO silicone hoses.
Modified car? Mileage? - It's helpful for folks to know the kind of things that can become issues :happy2:
-
its a gti ko3, year is 2006 and milage is at 42000, its also got a stage 1 revo on it with a forge dv
....Almost exactly the same as mine was when I changed turbo hoses then, except that I hadn't had a split. I also have the Forge DV.
I took the opportunity to also change the other pipes in the line to Neuspeed but apart from freer flowing the mod didn't deliver a wow factor and was expensive.

Anyone know the part number ? My local stealers are been very stupid and don't understand what the first one after the turbo and it's has a 90 degree bend means
....If you get stuck I could dive into my batcave garage without electricity and rummage around to find the box with my OEM hoses in and get the part #. Which one is it in the pic I posted?
-
.
Okay.... I don't see why I shouldn't help you (and myself) by selling you my hose and metal part if you are interested. Afterall, they won't be going back on the car and are just living in a box in my batcave.
I normally sell things at 50% of their retail price (VW dealer price in this case) and then plus postage and not at 50% of fleeBay's 'finest' as-cheap-as-you-can-find.
Either way, I'm now off into the batcave so at the very least you'll have the part #'s - I may be some time! As Captain Scott once said on his ill-fated expedition. Let's hope I don't get crushed by OEM car parts which were once on my car.
So I'll post on my return...........
-
.
I have returned from The Batcave and survived the spider!

The hose part # is 1K0 145 838G and it has an OEM (not stainless) Jubilee clip attached with a built-into-the-hose bracket. I can take a photo and post it if you need.
I also have the metal part but I expect you already have yours. I don't know exactly how they attach to each other but an ETKA illustration would show that.
-
Yeah post a pic please and pm me how much you want for it :happy2:
....Pic tomorrow sometime but I can't ask my VW dealer a price until Wednesday earliest as I'll be away.
Where are you in the UK? - I'm driving north from southwest coast on Tuesday.
-
^^^^
Ok, I'm only going as far north as Nottingham.
-
.
The pics:

^ As you can see, good condition and no sign of any splits.
Out of interest, can you post a pic of the your split? I'm sure others would be also be interested to know.
-
I will when we get it off, just give me a pm with how much you want inc postage and ill send it by paypal if thats ok ?
....Absolutely ok :happy2:
Will post/PM Wednesday as long as my friendly VW dealer's parts manager gets back to me in time.
It's a meaty piece of hose - Rubber I think, and a different material from the other OEM hoses in the turbo connections.
-
^^^^
Usually boost pressure and obviously there's more of it on a remapped car.
I'm told that the Mk4 GTI was particularly prone to it but I haven't heard of it on the Mk5 although the hoses look very similar. Yours could be an external cut or a one-off manufacturing failure.
-
.
I hope you are sitting down, Rob!
The price of a new 1K0 145 838G hose is £54.42 incl vat! Rather more than I expected and the prices of the other hoses in line range from £60-80 each!
So applying my 50% 'policy' I would want £25 + £5 p&p = £30 (giving you a couple of quid off to round it up).
I'm away tomorrow and offline until Friday afternoon.
-
^^^^
I won't be anywhere near any Post Offices until late Friday at the earliest and even that isn't guaranteed during their opening hours. BUT I can arrange dispatch through someone else. I'll let you know when it's dispatched anyway. You'll need to PM me your postal address before midnight tonight or I won't have it in time.
PM incoming to you............
-
replied, twice!!
....Both your PM's received and replied to. I was doing things offline for a couple of hours or so.
-
@ Rob:
Am off to JKM soon and I have arranged with them to post the hose but only provided I receive payment first. Sorry but I don't know you otherwise I would send so you get it for the weekend as you wanted. The best I can do is check out PayPal and any message here from JKM's 'puter. You can thank Kate for that favour.
You've got my mobile # but I won't talk while driving and so txt is best and I can stop and call you back.
I can't do any more to help.
-
Got it, thanks for your help but its different to the one on my car ? Its alot bigger
....Ooops! Did you not compare also the part # I gave you with yours? Though probably difficult to access. Alternatively your VW dealer Parts Manager would be able to tell you the part # if you told him your chassis #.
That's strange because we both have K03 version Mk5 GTI's and mine was built in July 2005 to a Volkswagen 06 spec. They used to change the factory spec slightly in June/July every year.
If it's no use to you I'll return your £30 and ask you to return the hose. Please let me know what you want to do.
-
^^^^
Okay. Sorry I couldn't help you.
How do I send you £20? - Use the email I have for you and PayPal?
