As above. Whats the best way to remove debris/dust/grim before attacking it with a wash mitt?
Im thinking something like this... with a heavy shampoo/warm water mix.

I got these but they are now sold out. I fill both to rinse car then fill again to rinse after 2BM. Use open watering can to sheet water. Not as powerful as a PW but still pretty good.

.... And use a different kind of hosepipe.

I have one of those pressurised prayers for cleaning the car in the flat car park, you will want something at 7.5 litres and up or you will be back and forth to the tap 4 or 5 times to get it properly rinsed.

....A very sensible and civilised arrangement. I used to know someone who lived in the same street as the Kray Twins - notorious criminals in the East End of London - and the arrangement was the same. But if you grassed up The Krays you'd doubtless meet a very nasty death!
-
As much as i like the "lets no grass on each other" plan, thats a bit risky... a 1000 pound fine isn't something I'm prepared to mess with!

Correct, Water Butt (or even 2 of linked) Karcher Suction hose (or equivalent item) :happy2:
-
How will you fill the butt? Does it fit under your kitchen tap??
-
How will you fill the butt? Does it fit under your kitchen tap??
.... :signLOL:
Very good question!
Er, from a length of circular hose attached to the tap at one end and flowing into the butt at the other end... Oh hang on! That's a hosepipe!
-
I guess I'm one of the lucky one's. Parts of Hampshire are affected , but as I live in Southampton the water ban dosn't affect me as there is no ban here.
So it was out with the presure washer and on with the snow foam this morning :happy2:
-
How will you fill the butt? Does it fit under your kitchen tap??
From a downpipe (gutter) with a connector kit pipe.

I very nearly bought a water butt and filled it from the tap before all the nonsense started. :chicken:

....I have one of those (similar) for collecting rainwater for the garden but there's no way I'd use that water to wash the car after it has been stagnating in the butt. We don't have a hosepipe ban down in my neck of the woods.
-
RR, I've used water out of them regularly, you should find the water is fine, not like a garden pond at all. There is a filter available for the suction hose anyhow
-
I bought one of these:
http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=110&storeId=10151&partNumber=210125
Did a good job of getting the car wet initially, and had just enough power to get some of the dirt off around wheel areas, but it's not a workable option to rinse the suds off. I tried, but by the time I'd done a panel, the sudes were drying.
I had to resort to throwing buckets of water over half the car and then getting the water magnets on it quickly. I reckon I probably used more water than if i'd been allowed to use a hosepipe :stupid:
-
Or a Mountain Bike pressure washer....
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=58018
-
Most pressure washers will work by suction, I believe, so just buy the appropriate intake hose and stick it in a bucket . Job done.
-
How about using a bucket??just keep on filling it up
-

Oldschool, but a bucket got the suds off quickly, in fact, it was probably quicker than a hose!

Yep, there's no bucket ban! But saying that, I wouldn't be surprised if the pesky meddlers did that next!

Like my original post but I use a 25litre drum. I just use a piece of hose cut to length so it fits in my drum/bucket and connect the other end to my Karcher jetwash. It works a treat!
-
As it looks like its going to be raining all day mine will get washed.
I'll get wet of course but I can live with that.

Not if you squirt Fairy Liquid on it from an upstairs window and let the rain do the rest...

.
Non-stop rain and wind here in coastal southwest Dawsett too. But mine is in her batcave with guards on the door:

I only wash mine when she gets dirty enough for me to see a difference - Otherwise it feels like spending 2 hours for very little result. I sometimes clean only the wheels.

They are an important creature within the animal/insect world. It's all about balance. "I'll be honest. I ordered the Three Wolf Moon T-Shirt based off the amazing promises I read about at Amazon.com.
When my order arrived, I was not disappointed. As the UPS truck was driving down the street with my delivery, my female neighbors began opening their doors and stepping outside. I suspect the Three Wolf Moon T-Shirt contains powerful lupine pheromones.
The shirt is made up of soft cotton. I was grateful to see this as it flexed as my muscles grew after donning this garment.
The Three Wolf Moon T-Shirt gave me a +10 resistance to energy attacks, +8 Strength, and added 30 feet to my normal leap. I cannot list the specific effects involving the opposite sex as I am still discovering these. And they are many.
Since owning the Three Wolf Moon T-Shirt, I have successfully solved 7 crimes in my city, including 4 cold case murders. The local police force is currently wishing to retain my services.
I do have one complaint, and that's that I must stay indoors on windy days. Last fall we had a windy day and I received notice that hundreds of women were suddenly pregnant, carrying my offspring, up to 12 miles away.
That said, I would whole-heartedly recommend the Three Wolf Moon T-Shirt. You never need to be a lone wolf again!"

How do you rinse afterwards Robin - is it a trip back down there?
-
Also, I heard the ban has been lifted in certain parts(?).
I've no idea whether it affects me in the East midlands - is there a conclusive list of the areas that have had the ban lifted after the recent downpours?
Ta.

Look on your local water authority website.
South East water in their wisdom have decided to keep their ban running. :fighting:

You're not alone Ian :ashamed:
"Find out if there is a hosepipe ban in your area from 5th April 2012
To find out whether the hosepipe ban affects you, enter your postcode and press the check button.
A hosepipe ban applies for your area"
-
Most places have only had the drought classification lifted but the hosepipe ban is still in force
-
Took advantage of the break in the constant rain to wash the car. Of course being under Thames water jurisdiction i couldn't use a hosepipe so proceeded to legally use about 3 times the amount of water i ordinarily would use because i had to use a bucket to rinse every 2 seconds... The law is an ass that i could have faced a £1k fine for using less water :rolleye:
Whilst washing i noticed that the drivers side front headlight has popped out of its seating slightly on the bottom left corner as you look at it, i can't for the life in me fathom how it has happened as there are no scratches or scuffs anywhere near that region and there are no marks on the headlight itself..? Anyone else ever had this happen?
I took a quick look to see if i could reseat it but from what i can tell you have to take off a good deal of the front of the car in order to get at the lights - is this so and if so is it easy enough to do, i have the correct torx screwdrivers.
Thanks

Those are much cheaper than I thought Ashley! Pretty cool.
Does it have enough pressure in it to attack the skirts, sills and arches in reality?
Ta :happy2:
-
^^^ just picking up on the fact you use the word 'attack' maybe you don't actually mean that but just in case...
You don't really want to go at dirt on a vehicle too hard with a blasting jet of water, all you'll end up doing is embedding fine pieces of grit and metal into your paintwork.
If you do use a pressure washer make sure you are angling the jet at the bodywork rather than aiming it in a direct manner / face on.
-
^^^^
That's a good tip, Frenzy :drinking:

Nope, purely aggravation so it's loose and comes off nicely :happy2:
For £8 I wondered if it was going to be more like a tap flow rather than with some power like a normal hose pipe nozzle.

I use my karcher and a standard female hose attachment plugs int the tap on the butt no probs!
Also use a 25litre container/bucket with a small piece of hose connected to the Karcher and open hose end submerged in the bucket/container, works exacly the same as connected to the mains.
Also the benefit is that it is rain water and it does not leave any marks on the car when drying :happy2:

Yup what he said ^ Hose from bucket to Karcher. My pa's got a K3.8, the one with a soap dispensor. The ad's ive seen for karcher recently have quoted all karchers draw water from water butts. I would be a bit wary of using rain water straight from the butt. Unless youve got a filter, you could be spraying tiny bits of grit at your car and not realising it. Not sure if karchers have built in filters. I would gues not.

Thinking of getting one of these instead of the hand pump jobs. Will also come in handy when we go camping.

....I don't call it bad luck - It's just normal wear and tear when you enjoy driving. Irrespective of stone chips etc it's not a good idea to drive too close to the vehicle in front anyway. I think you can value your car and love it just as much without detailing it every Sunday or getting too worried about stuff which inevitably happens.

Agreed Robin and that was what i was trying to get across (in a fairly unsuccessful manner) - if it happens on the road then that is *shoite happens* / nature's misfortune, general wear & tear as it is referred to, if you do it yourself knowingly then that's gormless numptyism

Unless youve got a filter, you could be spraying tiny bits of grit at your car and not realising it.
Because that never happens while you're driving it, eh?!
 not a like for like comparison really
