Title: To anyone that has upgraded their speakers..
Post by: Alexander on May 10, 2009, 03:51:28 pm
Did you have to cut holes in the metal skin in the door to fit the mid drivers?

I took my infinity kappa 1.7cs speakers to a fitter to get a quote for fitting and he took the door card off and said he reckons he is going to have to cut into the metal door skin to fit the mid range speakers.
Some people say that cutting this skin can set off the airbag fault light because of the pressure difference which has me worried.

What speakers have other people fitted and did they go in ok?

I have Hertz "hi-energy" range speakers in the doors - comps up front and coax's in the rear. I didn't fit them myself, but the originals are rivetted in from what I can recall. The Hertz ones went straight in without any issues. :happy2:

Cheers Hurdy. Just looked online and found the following:

Infinity" Kappa 1.7cs" Midrange Driver: Mounting Depth: 47mm
Hertz:" HSK163.3" Midrange mounting depth: 41mm
Hertz: "ESK163L.3" Mid-range Mounting depth: 28mm (orange speakers)

Couldnt see any mention of the hi energy speakers but the Hertz ESK163L.3 have a much smaller mounting depth than the other hertz or my infinitys. Will see if I can get the specs for the high energy speakers.

Are yours orange or black speakers Hurdy?

Mine are black. The orange ones are the slightly lower spec ones....but still good. :happy2:

Then your mid drivers should be 6mm shallower than mine. Don't suppose you know how tightly yours fitted in? I'll be very annoyed if its that 6mm causing me grief!
