Post by: dan930 on April 07, 2012, 11:50:39 am
my mates brother is selling his 58plate s3 5dr....was wondering if the s3 engine is the same as the ed30?Eg turbo, internals etc etc....might be tempted

internals are stronger, and the S3 has a bigger intercooler (tho with 58 plate it'll probably be a facelift and hence have plastic end tanks).

same turbo, injectors and things.

ED30 and S3 engine internals (and Cupra), are the same.  Injectors are different though.

No, both have the same injectors.
iirc one of the S3 cams has a different etka part number to the ed30.

Cheers, was thinking of snapping it up & selling the ed30 but if the only difference is that it's 4wd,I won't bother

Ok, injectors could be the same. Like I said, same engine though, S3 is not the stronger engine.

According to this link  http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,119.msg1107.html#msg1107

No, no, no, NOOOOO.

The Edition 30 engine does NOT have stronger internals.  It has different internals, and only some.  The durability of the Ed30 engine is exactly the same as the standard GTI engine.

Only the Audi S3 engine has stronger, reinforced internals, along with a stronger cylinder block/crankcase.

Yes, compression ratios are different, but that is for a specific reason, and nowt to do with any durability allowances.
